    Brake switch link

Never knew I needed one! Then I saw the jury rigged spring in place and I wonder just what it replaced. A quick look through the brake section of the catalog and there it was! A brake spring link. It looks like it's made from a 1/8" welding rod with a loop at each end. But how long is it? Here's the real problem, the spring is not stiff enough to overcome the switch spring so it only moves the...

    Oklahoma turnpikes

Poor old "Repop" She is still panting from todays run. The minimum speed is 60mph, Max is 80 but everybody is going faster. We were able to stay in overdrive thanks to our Weber Carb. Rolling hills with some pretty steep. We stopped 20 miles from the Texas border. Stopped too early but that was a scheduling glitch. Geri made reservations ahead of time for the whole trip, She...

  • 1941 mercury 8 conversion to electric wipers.

Hi everyone. I have a 1941 Mercury 8 staff car here in France. When it arrived from the states the vaccum wipers and bits were in a box in the back. I decided to convert to electric and bought a kit with the motor and switch etc however as I did not take the old one out i have found that I am missing a bracket to fasten the motor to the body. Does anyone have a parts diagram to show what should be...

Geee, the stuff we forget about,,

The ole A is going. Not going to take it with the permanant move to Florida. Hated to sell it, but, its going to the grandson of the fella we bought it from 46 years ago. So that eases it somewhat.
Anyway, everything goes with it, 2 pickup truck loads. Which included half dozen carburetors [ all redone] that I had forgotten about, a dozen shocks [ not frozen], starters, generators, ignition...

    Top Moldings

Are there any suppliers of the correct types of top moldings (mouldings)? My brief check on the major suppliers hasn't come up with many hits. The Model A Restoration Guidelines and Judging Standards has great descriptions and photos; now I just need to find suppliers. Any help will be appreciated

  • Time to play "when was I built?"

The eternal question: When was this Model A built? It's clearly a 1930, but what month? Unfortunately we have one contradiction right off the bat: the engine and splash apron are late '30, but the instrument panel is early '30.

Because the engine has the extra "100" stamped on it, and because splash aprons/running boards are often one of the first things to rust out and need...

    U joint clam shell

Getting ready to install the newly rebuilt engine and transmission into the pickup here’s the question and I hope I’m using the correct name. Inside of the clamshell there is a inner clamshell piece that has two holes 180 degrees from each other does it matter where I position the holes I’m thinking if you pack the shell with grease you would want the holes at so the grease doesn’t just pour...

    Brake Rod Freeplay

I've read all the threads I can and consulted Les Andrew's book about adjusting the brake rods. They all say "take all the free-play out of the rods" before putting the pins in the clevises. My question is "what is the free-play"? Is it the free movement of the rod before spring tension is felt. or does it include the movement under spring pressure but before you're actually...

    Documented history

This car was brought to the Elliott Museum in 2012. Before it was put in storage:
    • all fluids drained
    • battery removed
    • crankcase flushed with synthetic oil
    • MMO put in cylinders
A note says that this car was originally a police car, but I'm not sure I believe that. They might have thought that simply based on the presence of the driver-mounted Sportlite. But those were actually really common and...
