  • Posting OFF SITE photos to the VFF

With the latest debacle going on with Photobucket and lots of pictures being zapped if you don't join, it's just a matter of time before other off site hosting companies do the same. To preserve the future content of this forum, I would appreciate it if everyone could load the pics directly to the site.
I actually care about preserving the information here for the future. There is software being developed that won't allow off site hosting to the VFF. As soon as it is ready we will be implementing it. If anyone notices lost pics on a previous thread please bring it to my attention.
Thanks for your cooperation and as always if you need any help with this just ask.

I've posted some thumbnails, and some full size pictures here.
Are they both saved the same way to this forum, no matter what happens?

As long as your not using a URL from a hosting site that holds your pics and pasting it here your good.
Thumbnails or full size makes no difference.
Take them right off your computer, camera or device and they are imbedded to this site forever.

        Article:

Photobucket Breaks Image Links Across the Internet

Want embedded Photobucket images to continue loading in forums or on your website? Be prepared to pay $399 per year.

        Matthew Humphries
Embedding images on a website or in a forum post is a very common practice, with those images usually living on one of the many well-known image hosting websites. One such host is Photobucket, but a recent change to its subscription tiers means many millions of images across the Internet are no longer going to load outside of Photobucket's own site.

The key feature of a Photobucket account we're talking about here is called "3rd Party Hosting." It allows you to embed images from Photobucket in another location on the Internet, e.g. in a forum post or on a website.

As Norvic Philatelics discovered, Photobucket changed its terms and conditions and removed the 3rd Party Hosting feature from the lower subscription tiers. If you want to continue using that feature then a Photobucket Plus 500 subscription is required. It costs $39.99 per month or $399 per year.

Not only is that very expensive, it means existing Photobucket accounts on lower subscriptions tiers will have any embedded images they've created in the past cease to work. Considering Photobucket has been around since 2003 and hosts over 10 billion images, that's potentially millions of embedded images across the Internet being broken thanks to a policy change. Here's just one example of how this change impacts a forum thread.

The notice at the top of the page says it is the 5th year of VFF. I think we all owe a debt of graditude to Mitch for providing this forum, and monitoring and maintaining it.

            WARNING: MTFCA site. Be careful
            by Rob Patterson
The MTFCA's new forum has been hacked.
Initially a couple of days ago, but after getting back up, its now been down a second time, for quite a while.
But please be careful should you get onto it. My "Malwarebytes" blocks the site, saying its sending outbound trojans. There is another report saying "my Norton security software sent up a intrusion attempt red flag for the...

What I really like about this site!
            by Mike V. Florida
You know one of the great things about this site is the knowledge shared. If someone has a question, for the most part, not only the answer is given but the reasons behind that answer is also given.

If someone posts something incorrect on this site, the correction is also given with supporting documentation.

Do we know all? No. We get out information from others sometimes...
