The quake was at about 12:30 am and lasted for 30+ seconds. It was the largest quake recorded since the devastating quake of 1964. This one was located out in the ocean just south of Kodiak Island (500 miles from where I live in Anchorage), and did not do much (if any) damage at all. The biggest concern was in Tsunami warnings, but none ever developed. My pickup was on jack stands and still is. Hopefully it will have wheels under it next week sometime.

Good thing it wasn't closer, hope you have BIG jack stands!!!

As I understand, the quake was about 1400 miles southwest of Anchorage in the Gulf of Alaska. At 7.9 it was a biggie! Alaska experiences over 1000 quakes annually. But only averages a half dozen over 6 on the Richter scale.

Was only 500 miles from Anchorage. 1,400 miles would put it in Seattle.

I thought 1400 miles didn't sound right. I just found the USA Today news story that threw out that figure. Now it states 175 miles SE of Kodiak Island.

I sure hope they don't start an investigation to see if the Russian meddling caused it. LOL

Hey Carl, I have slept through the last 3 quakes we had down here. No biggy!

Seems quakes are happening all along the West coast...one in Utah today!!! We are not immune here in the Mid-West. We have the New Madrid Fault Line that gives us natural milk shakes now and then.

International Model A Ford Day in Alaska
          by CarlG
We had 11 cars in Anchorage and 5 in Fairbanks that showed up as a group for IMAFD Celebrations.

The Anchorage group assembled at the Sears Mall for a brief 1 hour car show, followed by a tour of downtown. It was amazing to see all the cameras come out of nowhere to take our pictures as we drove down the streets. Then we headed out to Pt. Woronzof for a picture shoot, to City Diner for...

Where is your clubs big tour this season?
          by Curly
Our Alaskan A’s just returned from a week long trip to Kodiak, Alaska. We had about 20 vintage cars half were Model A’s. The ferry ride was a nine hour ferry each way. The cars were enclosed in the belly of the ship the whole way.
The folks in Kodiak were so appreciative and they really rolled out the red carpet for us. One member lost a main bearing on the way but his son had him another...

Alaskan A's trip to Kodiak Island
          by CarlG
The Alaskan A's sponsored a trip to Kodiak Island last week. Three clubs participated - The Alaskan A's, The Antique Auto Mushers of Alaska, and The Vernon Nash Antique Car Club of Fairbanks. We had about 22 cars from all over the state (7 Model A's) and 42 people that participated. My vehicle logged 600 miles. Some were more, some were less, depending on where they started from. It was a fun filled...

          Question for the Alaskan A's...
          by Steve Plucker
Do any of you know just what assembly plant supplied Alaska with the Model A/AA's during 1928 thru 1931? Anyone?

Has anyone done any research on that aspect of Model A/AA Ford production?

(Looks like it was a great tour to McCarthy)!

          Thanks.

          Jack Stand Support Bases
          by Tom Wesenberg
I have carpet in the garage where I park my Model A's, so when I store them on jack stands I like to have a solid base under the jack stands to keep the legs from leaving marks in the carpet. These also work to give the jack stands a solid base when using them on dirt or gravel. I cut a 10" square out of 5/8" plywood, and screwed thin boards around the perimeter to keep the stands centered....

          Spring in Alaska
          by Curly
I love this time of year. I did several project to my Model A over the winter. Modern shocks, new 19 inch radials, and a couple cosmetic things. I have been chomping at the bit to get out and see how it feels. IT DRIVES AMAZING! I don't know if its the shocks or the new wheels but wow it hugs the road and feels great. I do need to adjust my doors, the passenger door flew open around a corner,...

          Your Longest Road Trip?
          by Grit Kid
What has been your longest road trip, how many days and how many miles per day? This I'm sure will vary due to age and derriere. One couple in our club drive has driven all over the country from state to state. What's your longest trip?...

What is a good jack to carry along?
          by Jeff/Illinois
Do you guys have any preference to a good working safe jack to take along in your Model A for changing a tire? Don't necessarily want or need to use an original.

Got a good one that is compact and easy to use?? Where did you get it??

          Thanks.
