  • Bull Horn Picture

For those not familure with a bull horn, here's a picture of one I bought a year ago at a swap meet. I tested it on Pat's power supply, but it doesn't work. The amp meter shows a small amount of current flow on 6 and on 12 volts, so I suspect the contacts are corroded. Tomorrow I'll see if I can get it apart and clean the contacts, and try it again. To operate these you just pull the lever down, and the horn will make the sound of a bull calling for it's cow.

No, the rivets would need to be drilled out to remove the cover, so I just set it aside for now.

          Model A horn and traffic
          by carolinamudwalker
Have any of you heard how a model A horn sounds at 45-50 mph? I have had 2 close calls recently, One when a guy was coming into my lane and I had no place to go, the other in a parking lot with this jerk just backing out without looking and depending on a horn to warn him. Again I had no place to go because car behind me. I want a truckers air horn with a foot switch, any ideas?

          by Tudor31
Somebody called himself a knucklehead. Well. here is another one. I have had problems with the horn on my 31 Tudor and have been taking the back cover of multiple times. The last time I guess I didn't tighten the screw enough since it come off while I was out driving. Yes, you guessed it, the cover came off and the car behind my ran it over making it into a flat piece of metal. So, here we go....

          Horn 12 volt conversion
          by Curly
I have a nice original horn I’d like to have updated to 12 volt. I’d be more comfortable sending it to someone with a good reputation. Any recommendation?...

          Need help with horn
          by saxman657
I have a 28 Tudor that was refurbished by my wife's uncle, now since passed, so I don't know much of the history of this car. I was trying to clean/lube the horn per Les Andrew's book, but it looks like the unit is sealed and can't get it completely apart per the book. Could this be some kind of after market horn? I've attached pictures. If it is an aftermarket, how do you lube -- or does a horn...

          Horn not well
          by WMWS
My horn has not been sounding too good lately so I took it off to check it out. I took it apart and everything looked good so put it back together. I tested it directly to the battery and it sounded great. But when I hooked it up to the wires and pushed the horn button it didn't sound so good. Like it wasn't getting enough juice. Do you think my problem is where the horn rod makes contact in the light...

I have what I think is an aftermarket horn. It only has one screw in the cover and that is to take the cover off. The adjustment is underneath the cover. I was going to clean up the motor and replace the brushes but there does not seem to be any way to get it apart. I think I have heard that some of the repros are not rebuildable. Is that the case?

Horn Goes Ahooga When Engine Running Just Oogh When Engine Off
          by Leo
OK, not a show stopper question but just a minor annoyance. I suspect a poor ground, probably too much paint in places where it should not be because all the wiring was replaced and the horn blows fine when it gets enough juice. Will a horn relay fix this? Yeah, I know it's a band aid approach.........

Testing a Sparton Model B Horn
          by Tom Wesenberg
I just tested a Sparton Model B horn I have, and it has great sound. It draws 8 amps at 6 volts.
It looks identical to the Model A Sparton horn, except for the tapered shape of the motor cover....
