  • Honda Generater Scam or Not?

I have one of these Honda generators that I bought off ebay about 6 years ago. It came from a pawn shop in Oregon, and looks like new. I asked the guy to be sure to drain the oil before shipping, and he said he would. Well, he didn't, and during shipment it was upside down, so the oil ran to the top side of the piston. When I opened the box, I pulled the recoil slowly, just in case it was hydrolocked. I pulled the spark plug and then the recoil to flush out the oil. OK, this isn't my question, but just a warning in case you have one shipped without draining the oil. BTW, these are wonderful, smooth, quiet generators.

Now, 3 of these generators suddenly show up on ebay, all ending on the same day, and all by sellers with 0 or 1 feedback, and all with the same picture. They have the usual bids near $400 and end in the next 24 hours. I'll watch the feedback to see if these are good sellers, but how can a person know ahead of time?

I just added the other 2 links, but now see they all look like the same link, at least they appear to be the same as posted in my links..

Looking at their other items for sale they are all selling the same merchandise, but from different locations. Maybe it's a large company with many warehouses? You can probably write to one of them and ask the relation

There is no way to tell how good the seller is with only a few sales. your link does not bring up one item. Maybe it was a scam and now the link is gone. Maybe now that hurricane season is over and Honda will be bringing out a new model next year, sellers are getting rid of them.

The first and third links come back with 0 results, but the middle link shows it sold for $532 after 61 bids. Something smells fishy.

Think about this, if it is brand new the seller would not want to open the box to take a picture and might use the factory photo for the ad. pay by paypal and be protected as a buyer.

Check the sellers feedback on the completed listing, 3 positives and one neutral: "cancelled sale, after many days, no response to emails, did return payment" This joker wouldn't get my money!

So far no feedback on the Honda, and the seller is fairly new to ebay. He has only 3 feedbacks, and one is neutral, as follows:
cancelled sale, after many days, no response to emails, did return payment Buyer:

Yep, it was a scam as I suspected.
I just checked the feedback on the Honda, and the high bidder said the seller requested double payment, then ignored emails, and cancelled after 14 days, so he left negative feedback.

Here's another one that just ended with the seller having zero feedback. I'll keep watching it for a few weeks to check on the feedback for this Honda, but you can bet the buyer never gets a generator. I don't know what someone gets out of playing this game of selling something they don't have.
You just can't buy a new Honda EU1000 for $164.

                    by Big hammer
Bought oil from Walmart, picked up the wrong weight, took it back to get the right weight. No problem but the young lady said the cap is leaking, she opened it and what was inside was OLD DRAIN OIL !
They made it right but I felt like a heel/crook
So after paying for oil, in fronf of the clerk, I'm going to open the container and check for new clean oil this point forward!

Model T's don't have oil pumps.
                    by Tom Hicks
The Model T does not have an oil pump. The engine and transmission share an oil pan, they are both bathed in the same oil. That oil is picked up by dippers under the connecting rods and slung around the engine. The magneto is attached to the flywheel and the bottom of it spins through the sump throwing oil everywhere. Ford had a funnel and tube system to catch some of that oil slung by the magneto...

                    Not the normal oil question
                    by Standing Elk
Let's see if I can remember enough of what I was told to ask this question. Apparently the EPA mandated the removal or maybe the addition of some component to motor oil?? I was told that the new formula now carries an additional code and that it should NOT be used in our motors. Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks

                    by slammin
I see some confusion on what 600 W really is. One search states that the company originally making 600W was bought by Mobile years ago. Mobil offers Mobil - 1 Gallon Bottle, SAE 140 Mineral Gear Oil

                    Viscosity (SUS) 30.6 at 100°C, 460 at 40°C Sq. mm/s, ISO 460
Most vendors offer 600W by the quart, prices ranging from $7.50 to $10.30 I use Mobile industrial oils for the machinery in my shop...

Wondering how many of you use either detergent or non detergent oil. Doesn't really matter what brand just curious about the detergent part especially in a fairly fresh engine. Thanks

Wife and I want to drive the sport coup to Brent's work shop from the coast of N.C. but I still have some blow by indicating the rings are not seated yet. Only have 300 miles since AER rebuilt a long block for me. I have changed oil & filter twice so far. I would like to average 50 mph on the trip out, about 400 miles. What do you think?

As a few of you know - I have a 1930 Town Sedan, Murphy Body (March 1930). And she's a little rough. My wife has already named her Millie. The engine hasn't run in some time and I want to attempt to get it started and see what all is wrong and needs to be fixed in the drivetrain. If I don't have to I don't want to drop the oil pan or remove the valve cover to see if I can get this started. The engine...
