This comes from a true story told to me about 1990. A lady drives her car to church on Sunday, and backs into her usual parking spot. After church is over she gets back in her car, but it won't run, so she calls for a tow truck to take it to the local shop. The shop said they could find nothing wrong, and it's running fine now, so she takes it home. The next Sunday is an exact repeat of the previous Sunday, so again it's towed to the local shop. Again she drives away from the shop and no problem was found. The third Sunday the same problem happens again, but this time someone found the problem.
    What was causing the trouble?

You dont say if it was a crank no start.. assuming it is:::
It could be a bad electric fuel pump in the tank. This happens quite often from the movement / vibrations of the car and fuel slosh when being towed. . Kinda like doing the tap test to the gas tank and then the car starts.
A module due to heat stroke will cool down and cause this too.

If it is a no crank no start, i’ll go with a starter or a neutral switch.

Might have something to do with "backing into her parking spot." Perhaps, back into a snow bank or hillside.

I didn't hear what year the car was, but I think it was one with a carb and mechanical fuel pump from the 60's or 70's, and it did crank over OK.

60’s or 70’s. My theories are out the window

Seems to me that she might not been able to start the car because she was in the wrong car!
You wana look waaay far up da road and plan yer route because the brakes are far more of a suggestion than a command!

You got it pretty quickly. Did you remember from a few years ago when I posted it?
As unlikely as it sounds, she did back into a hill of dirt on the edge of the parking lot, which blocked off the exhaust.

In the 70's and 80's I had to fix some GM cars that would only idle due to the two layer exhaust collapsing the inner pipe and blocking off the exhaust flow. Since that time, to check for some engine problems, I will often ask an owner to give it the gas while I feel for good flow at the tail pipe.

In high school in Wisconsin in the Winter sometimes some guys would pack a tailpipe with snow and then watch from the window to see what teacher couldn't get his car started! Also, while in high school, I worked nights at A & P and at least once a winter some customer would come into the store after loading his/her groceries and say their car would not start: first thing we checked was whether they had backed into a snow bank around the perimeter of the parking lot.

Somewhere along the line, I heard of stuffing a potato up the tail pipe to cause the same effect.

Sarah runs w/o engines pans now but to protect her from unwanted objects entering her through the carb, I put on a Hi-Boy this morning. She runs with Zeny. She didn't put up much a fuss as I put it on her and afterwards we took a drive. More silent now from hearing the sucking noise coming from Zeny. We drove out the usual mileage, she ran fine, no spits or spats. Got back home and took a look under...

                      by Beauford
Chassis started yesterday but will not today. I have spark at coil and plug. Cleaned carb (new Tilly) again. Using a new lawn mower plastic tank as a temp. Turn on, Retard, Pull choke for a few revs with GAV opened half, push in choke, crank and no start. Waiting for battery to charge up again....

Sarah is running now like she's never before. So much more power. Before she took hills but not like she's doing now. I accelerate at the bottom of a steep hill and she takes off. I have to watch my speedo to hold her back. She staying cool even in this heat I have and...……..she hasn't used a thimble of coolant and no foam/froth/bubbles. I might get to enjoy her now and...

Today's drive was, I believe, the best enjoyment from any time before. I had no concerns or worries. She kept real cool, plenty of get up and go, ran great and I lost no coolant. The last time I made that same trip I used up a gal of coolant. That problem seems to have been corrected. Although I use to get 18 mpg whereas now it's dropped to 14 but I don't adjust the GAV to more lean on straightaways....

Well we made it but not without problems. Car did fine (except these damn brakes) until we hit this long, long, long, did I mention long uphill climb to Boon N.C. It was warm out. Car started missing and then quit. I could get it to restart but then it would quit when pulled out into traffic. I could see bubbles at the top of the glass fuel bowl. I opened the gas cap but made no difference....

So I’ve said this before when my father-in-law gave me Sister a few years ago my mechanical ability with cars was adding washer fluid. Now I have learned a little, actually put a new carburetor on her a couple years ago, fiddled with the headlight switch and got them working again (still have no idea what I did to fix it) and a few other minor things.

I will freely admit that normal...

As some of you know, my gal Sarah has been away this winter being poked and prodded, examined, felt up, rubbed and just about every indecency a lady can endure to make herself better looking and running for her man!!!! She'll be coming home soon so I got her a Welcome Home Darlin gift!!! If she returns pregnant, I'm hoping for a Roadster!!! ...

Greetings: I have only posted one or two times here, but I have been lurking for some time. I find that there is a wealth of information here and Lord knows, I have a lot to learn in the process of working on "Minnie" (Named after my wife's late aunt Minnie). I have enjoyed the help and encouragement of the local club. Already I have put in a new clutch and a rebuilt engine and new brakes...

I named one of my cars Lucy she is on the left because just about every fastener was loose when we got her.
It's amazing she just didn't just fall apart when going for a drive.

The other (R/S) Tudor is Paul named after my father who passed when I was 10. He had a Tudor just like this and I remember going for family rides all over town. Restoring this car was a labor of love in his...
