    Stude Trivia

    This was in the AACA speedster Email:::

    QUESTION::
    Beyond representing Mercedes-Benz in America, what other foreign companies did Studebaker attempt to establish an import/sales relationship with, in a desperate attempt to round out its portfolio in its final days?

    ANSWER::

    Japan's Datsun, Toyota, Isuzu and Prince companies.

    Although they came close with Nissan for Datsun distribution rights, the effort ultimately proved unsuccessful.

        Pat, it is in Indiana, very close to the original Studebaker Proving Grounds, which BTW has the world's largest advertising sign. They spelled out STUDEBAKER by planting lots of trees in the shape of the letters. When the salt is off the roads, you and I can go pick it up.

          Wow Tom ! She's a beauty and I would love to take a cruze down there with you. I have a couple stude's in the ditch under rocks and dirt. I think they were 1950 commanders, but not really sure. Father in law drove them for years and then used them to stop the erosion.

          Tom, were his green houses for sale ? Sounds like a great winter work shop to me.

        He has 4 very large greenhouses, all setting empty, and my thoughts were the same, that they would make a fantastic garage and workshop. He said the plastic will last about 8 years.

          Here's some more Studebaker trivia. Do a Google search for "Giant Studebaker", and you'll find some interesting pictures and reading.

              My car is just a couple miles from the Studebaker Proving Grounds, now owned by Bendix and Navistar. I'm going to see if I can tour them next summer. There are some scrap cars in the woods there from what I've read.

              BIG FOOT...............Hmm........so the rumors of your death have been greatly exaggerated?

              Studebaker was the world's largest wagon maker, and even built wagons for kids. It was called "The Studebaker Junior".
              Lincoln went to his grave in a Studebaker Hearse, which is now on display at the Studebaker National Museum in South Bend, Indiana.
