  • Garden Tractor Plow Day

This looks like it could be a fun event, and it even has a swap meet.

It was steep, UPHILL, on a paved lot, into Bobs' Repair Shop business. He built a push bumper on his Garden Tractor to push DEAD cars inside. It must have had a 9,000 to 1 Gear Reduction, it would even push a car with the rear wheels locked--(SCREECH!)

Another Guy tired of pushin' his Model A back & forth from a shed to his garage.
He mounted a Briggs & Stratton on a flat bar, in front of the transmission. He welded a clutch disc center to the centrifugal clutch & PLUGGED it onto the pilot shaft. With the floorboards OUT, he could reach the controls & just DROVE that DUDE, back & forth!!!

I know this is an old thread, but, as I am new here, I am trying to get "caught up" on all the fun I've been missing.
the plowing match post is now gone. A number of years ago I attended a garden tractor plowing match in Wisconson. What a site to behold, 50 garden tractors in a row, plowing in unison, one just behind the other with their left side wheels in the furrows. They had that 40 acre field plowed in no time. Great memory for me.
Still have my JD 214 garden tractor with "lots" of original accessories. There still is a fun rivalry between the Cub Cadet owners and the John Deere owners. . Jeff

      Memorial day parade photo
      by 2manycars
Here is a photo of the guy who was on the vererans float with me. It was his birthday, and he was 95 years old that day. He told me that exactly 75 years ago, also on his birthday, he got his draft notice for WW2.
You might notice that he looks better than me.
The other photo is my daughter and her dog, and me.

Alright, here's a story from a few days ago in my town: i went to a garage sale, and the guy had a large assortment of tools, so i was paying for the tools i bought, and we get to chewing the fat, so i mention my Model A, so he says he recently lost a friend was 97 years old, and used to work on Model As, until his passing. So the guy i bought the tools from gives me an account of this 97 year old,...

      Stuck Clutch
      by Roadster Rich
My car is now in Venice Florida since last summer. I last drove it in September and had a pretty bad leaking water pump. So I repaired that and just went to go for a ride. Started up like a champ, but the clutch is stuck and pushing in the pedal does nothing. I am right on the gulf and in a garage that is not dehumidified so I suspect it is corrosion causing this.

      I seem to have heard...

      Model A of the day
      by 2manycars
This morning's model a of the day on MAFCA is my father and his roadster. He sold the town sedan he and I restored in 1960, and bought the roadster in 1967. It was in a barn at a pansy farm, where the owner had stashed several model A;s to sell in his retirement. It was completely original. He took 7 years restoring it, and enjoyed it up until his death in 1981. We never found the roadster after...

Two Model A's found in a garage. no pictures
      by George Miller
Years a go a friend came to me and said he found a 2 door Model A that he wanted. But there was a 1930 four door there also. He said the guy would only sell both. So I got the four door, he got the tudor. The problem was we had to take the wall down on the lean too that was attached to the garage, to get his tudor out. Then the guy made us put it back up after we got the car out. He did not help....

      Very long story made shorter

My father passed when I was 10 and my brother Jeff was 13.(1970) Mom gave my older brother Jeff, dads Tudor that he had built out of two other cars. Dads car has been in storage ever since in shambles, since it took a beating from the Florida sun and weather where we used to live. Jeff was a mechanic but branched off into the towing business. Jeff held onto...
