Overdrive or 4 speed transmission or ring and pinion
      by davew
winter has set in and thinking of options. Would like to bump my speed from 45 to maybe 55. Would also like to do some longer distance touring. So-being new to the model A I'm looking at the four speed transmission conversions. People in Texas and California seem to have good ones and would look clean inside There is the mitchell overdrive but puts another shifter inside. But all kinds of gears. ...

      Advice with AA
      by DaWizard
Need a little help for friend with a AA. See, he is looking at a few more MPH out of the beastie and called Mitchell and they can sell him the 'in driveshaft" 2 speed.

I remember in my youth a transmission of sorts that went between the 4 speed and driveshaft but really don't remember if that was just a PTO or an actual over/under trans or something of the like. Need info on what

      Speed Opinion
      by Beauford
Rusty's first 40 mile trip tomorrow to Field Days of the Past. The road has very few pull offs and has some pretty good curves. The speed limit is 45mph and we are leaving at 9am which means most work traffic is gone. I'm a little hesitant to go 45mph...I have a vision of the front end coming apart. LOL (really) I have checked everything and seems all good. Should I go 35 or 45?? I truly dont have...

      Old wives tale or fact?
      by Chuck Sea/Tac
my friend was told to not push your car over 50 mph when it’s really hot out.? The only reason I can think of is being worried of a poor cooling system.?
the other one was don’t drive at the same rpm for long stretches. Makes no sense to me, unless the engine isn’t broken in.
On the same note, 20 years ago i pulled up to a display show our club was doing, and retarded the spark for...

      Overdrive Unit
      by GRutter
Can someone help to identify this ?
How would one know what the OD ratio is ?
Would an OD Unit be a better option than changing the ring / pinion to 3.54 for example ?
      Thanks in advance
Sorry don't know a lot about the drivetrain on those early Ford, I was told this is A but can't say for sure so take a good look at the pictures & decide for yourself. What you see in the pictures is everything I have for it. | eBay!

Well fellas, no more shift work for me! No more 16 hour shifts, missing kids/wife birthdays, Thanksgivings, Christmas' and weekends! I love the public utility field but my days of treating human waste is done!! (crappy job) I am staying in the same industry but on the sales end! I just landed a sales job for the whole state of VA for Miller Supply Co. Water Meter Systems. Two more days in my current...

      Mitchell Overdrive thoughts and experiences
      by BNCHIEF
I installed a Mitchell overdrive in my car so far I find it a little stiff to get into high but it is getting better Steve @ Mitchell told me this takes about 100 miles for it to break in. I really like it since it improves the jump from 2d to 3d quite a bit. If you are a touring type it is a nice item to have. One other thing I like about it at a stoplight shift the od into neutral and change...

      Transmission dilemma
      by Dennis
Well I'm getting ready to make a decision about my transmission. I have the original 3 speed in it and it's going to need a lot of work. I'm almost sure there's going to be something serious with the countershaft. I'm seeing bronze metallic the last time I dropped the oil. Sounds horrible in first, second, and reverse gear. Previous owners ran it low on oil, or it leaked out. I'd say more miles...

      Secrets of Speed Society
      by dmdeaton
On my way to Tennessee for work yesterday I stopped by and met Charlie. He is in my backyard here in Cincinnati. Since I have the roadster now I have the hankering to build a motor and put some period speed in it. I am keeping the roadster stock and going to look for a project car to put this motor in. Anyone on here play with speed parts?...

      Just wondering about actual speed,
      by Patrick
I wonder how many actually know how fast they are going. Even with the correct gearing the speedos can be off quite a bit after all these years.
Mine shows 43-45 at a GPS speed of 40 and 57 at a GPS of 50. [as long as I know I don't worry about it.]
