  • Auxiliary Brakes on ‘23 Depot Hack

I have auxiliary brakes that were installed way back when. They’re manufactured by Perfection Brake Co., Cincinnati, OH. They are similar in design to Rocky Mountain brakes. I want to have them relined. Does anybody know of a place that does this. I’d like to get metal free and asbestos free. I live in Northeast PA.

Bob, You might want to acquire the brake linings and rivet tool from a vendor like Langs or Snyders and do the job yourself. Might save you some time and $$. The rivet tool below lists for $26.95.

Bob Rocky mountain brakes used brake lining like the the A's have that is riveted on. Welcome to the VFF and maybe some pictures would help I assume they wrap around the outside of the drum.

            Front end/brake problems
            by Doctor J
My 1930 Town sedan was parked for over 9 months. When I got it out to drive, it started right up, but the front end shuttered every time the brakes were applied. I thought some rust had built up. Drove it around for a while, gently riding the brakes and it seemed better. But going down a real steep hill, I applied the brakes and the whole car jumped to the right every time the brakes were applied....

            1936 brakes
            by Jack Sparks
I am the new and very, very proud owner of a 1936 Ford 5 window coupe. The car has been built as a street rod with newer v8 and automatic. Car has disc brakes on the front and drums on the rear with 8" Ford rear axle, utilizing a dual master cylinder. My question is: What can I do to improve the stopping power of the brakes? When bleeding the system, it seems that none of the bleeders have...

            Hydraulic brakes
            by carolinamudwalker
Has anyone had any experience with MT Bowling brothers brake kits? I drive my car at a steady 55mph, it is very comfortable at that speed and straight as an arrow with the radial tires. I feel that I am out running my brake system. Part of it is age related. When changing from my modern with a very soft pedal to the model A it takes quit some time to mentally adjust Bottom line I just am not comfortable...

            Brake Adjustment Procedure:

I've noticed posts about sticking brake pedals and poor brakes. If the brake rods are not set up correctly , the brakes will be poor even if all parts are new . Here is how I do mine . I first adjust the brake adjustment wedges at each wheel with the brake rods disconnected at the clevis end . I start by adjusting the wedges at the rear wheels...

            Brake Track Replace or Repair

Trying to get this Town Sedan ready for the buyer. Agreed to get good running engine only, but now he wants it to drive in a parade in mid August. The brakes are pretty bad and I have to at least get it safe for a little while for him to use. All this effort and cost and no change in the sale price, but I guess that is par for the course when you sell to a friend.

            I have some pictures...

            Need Info on Emergency Brakes
            by copgib
My question is, since I have no emergency brake on my Model A, what parts should I be looking for to install one? I contacted MT Parts but they say there parts only work with there own backing plates. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Hugh

            Question on Mechanical Brakes
            by copgib
Since my Model A has only hydraulic brakes on the back and nothing on front, does anyone care to guess what it might cost me in parts to put mechanical brakes on it. Trying to get some idea what my expense would be in parts. Thanks for any help. Hugh

            Mechanical Brakes
            by copgib
Ok by now everyone knows I am going to put mechanical brakes on my 1930 Model A. I just got home from a 14-hour drive and looked under my car to take some photos of what was left after someone put hydraulic brakes on the back. Any and all input is welcomed, good or bad. Hugh

            Rear hydraulic brakes issue
            by Curly
I took my rear hubs off to put on the shock brackets for my Ken Davis shock kit. I got the rear bearings re-greased while I had it apart. The brake shoes and everything looked good. I put it all back together now the brakes are way too tight. I didn’t adjust anything but my easy spinning perfectly adjusted rear brakes will hardly turn now.
While the hubs were both off I pumped the brake...
