When I got BANNED for cotter key bending, what do I do, when Chief taught me the proper & SAFE way to bend them? I've seen folks adjust front wheel bearings & just BARELY spread the cotter key!!! Their LIFE may depend on that DANGED key!!! A NAIL, "might" be SAFER???

When I purchased my "A" I promised the seller that I would keep it original.
It wasn't all original, isn't original, but try to keep it original the way it was originally when I purchased it ;-)

That's because somewhere's else dislikes fine point cars and the folks that do them!!! This was a large part of my reasoning to provide a fair, balanced & quality site for ALL the people in the hobby. I'm NOT the best at it, but I "think" even casual Model A owners strive to keep their cars "reasonably" ORIGINAL.

I am wondering if I can get some input from the audience. I have a Model A quail that I believe to be an original because of the features on it, they are far more detailed than reproductions. This question stems from the other thread about reusing an original wiring harness for competition. Gary Karr brought up the point that I had mentioned about an old original harness being a fire hazard. Are fine point cars forced to use original parts for judging, even though they can be a life threatening item? I am of the belief that one should never discard an original part. But here I am with an Autolite manifold that has sagged in the rear to a point where the exhaust port is exposed about 1/8". I have a line on a good replacement, but do I discard the bad one? Or hope that somehow, somewhere, it could be rejuvenated?...08-22-2017, 11:33 PM -

Performance up grades have been around since the beginning of time. This was a huge issue that was never addressed on the.png "cave")

Chief, my Dad & mentor, had a friend that built a BEAUTIFUL, BLACK Sedan. Shortly after drivin' it, he SOLD it! Apparently DISILLUSIONED with it. Chief said, "The only thing WRONG with the car was it was BETTER than new, including the paint"!

I have stated my story before on this site. My 1930 Roadster was purchased new by my grandfather. My dad pulled it into a field on his new property in VT in 1955. In 1966 I pulled it out of the field and started the rebuild then used it from 1968 to today.

I have ALWAYS wanted an "original" car to make into a "grapes of wrath" type vehicle to just have fun with. I almost got one last year- but someone else got to it literally 30 seconds before I did.

I have been sitting here pondering the need for castellated nuts and cotter pins.
I understand Henry was thinking, "damn thing needs a bolt and nut, but does it need a split washer or cotter pin?"
I hear him saying that the cotter pin was cheaper than a split washer. There is no doubt in my mind he went with the cheapest of the options.
