Is it possible that some March 1930 cars had the metal conduit on their cutout to terminal box wires? We all know how thrifty Mr. Ford was and how he did not allow many things to go to waste....

by wrndlnI have two reproduction metal generator conduits. They look decent, but they are different. I am attaching a couple pictures of them. The question is: Did original conduits have a flare at both ends - it would seem like they would to prevent wire chafing? Both conduits have flares at the terminal box end, but the unpainted one doesn't have a flare on the generator end as can be seen in the pictures....You do not have permission to view this gallery.

I see this question quite often, so here is an easy check.
The diode is a one way valve for electricity. If you have an ohm meter, then disconnect the wires from the output side of the cutout, and connect the two ohm meter leads to the 2 cutout terminals, then reverse those 2 ohm meter leads. If you have a diode cutout, the meter should show near 0 ohms in one direction, but show infinity...-

by MitchThe terminal block to generator conduit was changed to a pliable lacquered loom around Feb 1930. It was found that the conduit can break, and or the wiring can short out. Has anyone ever ran into this? If a short happened there it would really cause some smoke....

by SoapyThe generator on my Tudor is Ford, but not Model A. Instead of a post, there is a green wire. I don't think that it was connected properly, and ran under the cutout, where the metal edge was cutting into the insulation. I changed it around and this is what I ended up with. Other than a lack of originality, is this all correct? (I don't have the lighting wire attached)You do not have permission to view this gallery.

I just tuned my Model A last nite and the engine sounded good. Today, it would not start. It turned over good and the battery was strong. I opened the hood and the wire from the starter into the metal channel up to the terminal box had burned thru just 3 inches from the starter switch. I removed all wires from the terminal box and pulled the wire out of the metal channel and all of the insulation...

by LeoThe box was rebuilt with the shafed end plate and it still leaks the 600 W oil. I've read the posts and there are other places which may be the culprits. At this point I may just opt for some of the steering box lube that will not leak out and cause this problem, but first I've got a steering box, wire bulb and harness head wet with grease. Is there an easy way to clean up this mess without having...

by Art EbelingI have a short I need help with. I have my instrument panel and terminal box to generator harness hooked up in my running chassis and the engine starts and runs, the amp gauge shows positive as it should and everything is fine. The main harness is connected at the light switch base with no connections at the lights or horn. I get a short when I connect the two wire main harness generator cutout...

I'm working on a generator that needs to be restored. Mention was made about a bearing noise, but there was no mention of no output, so I assumed it worked OK. The first thing I check was the cutout, and find the input terminal shorted to ground. It looks like a homemade bracket with just a small thin piece of black plastic that looks like a tiny piece off a TV dinner. You can see the bracket is bent...You do not have permission to view this gallery.
