I highly doubt that they were installed after the painting process.

YES i agree but the standards mention specifically that is what is confusing...IF it is the rivet in question in the picture

You are the judge , try to figure it out like the rest of us. If rivet not painted it would be rusty by now .Now you see standards are not infallible but common sense does.

Rust is not the issue, there were unfinished bolts all over the car,, it has to last 90 days for ford, the issue is if they were not painted then that pillar had to be riveted at a later date which makes no sense in this area.

Not sure about the oval head rivet but I would think for the flat head rivet they are saying don't fill and sand so you cant see the rivet head.

I see your point, and if they meant to say "covered by paint", then it should have been written that way.
Concealed does leave it open to debate.

Don't you love the English language? It's why the standards are so hard to write and why we all pushed for as many photos as possible.
Try to write instructions on how to tie your shoes. no pictures.
I dont know the answer. Perhaps asking the current JSC would answer it.

And while you are there talk about updating the Hardware Guide. It can't possibly be that hard to do.

Mitch the hardware guide is not a JSC manual, that was written by the late Mick Isbel

My $.02.......The rivet heads should not be 'drowned ' in paint ie. like we judge hood rivets....easy to 'drown' a flat head rivet, not so with the pictured dome head. Both would have been painted with the body, sparingly ....remember it was still just a Ford !

Yea great that was what was assumed. Just difficult to read that way. Thanks Jim.
