  • Gas Tank Sealer

Mitch, you posted in the speedster build thread a link to Caswell's sealing kits.
any more comments on this sealer? I am having 2 tanks cleaned and stripped at the moment. No leaks when I dropped them off. I heard mixed feelings on sealing VS not?

I posted that speedster build for Will. It was transferred from his computer files so I had to help him with it. That is why many of the posts are under my name. Contact Rock Hill Will about the product as I have no experience with it.
You can also look at the fuel system tech thread in the PT area. Brent posted what he uses in there for tanks

i'll vote for 3-7 filters from the tank to the carb, but that's just me.

I posted this fuel system tech thread back in June and mentioned the work you do on fuel tank restorations in post #1. If there is anything you might want to add to this either for or against what i wrote? Feel free to add a comment onto that first post. Your input would be valuable to the information.

          Gas tank sealer
          by Corley
When I built the 29 pickup, I used some Red Sealer on the gas tank. It came in a quart can, and when I dumped out the excess, I had almost a full quart left over. So, I saved it. Saw that can a few months back, shook it, and it was still liquid. So, I planned to use it on the new tank that I just welded a new filler spout in, just I case I had any pin hole leaks. It is a VW van tank, long and...

          Gas Tank Rust Removal
          by CSPIDY
Finally got around to addressing the rust in the gas tank of my 28 Tudor.
the plan is to remove it, fill it with 10 gallons of Evaporust, clean with Por-15 cleaner degreaser, then prep with the Por-15 metal prep, followed with Por-15 paint coating.
what are your thoughts? I have heard good reports on the Por-15 paint but have some reservations using an internal coating.
          any advise...

          Tank sealer removal
          by bill the collector
I bought a 30-31 gas tank that has a black tar like sealer inside that was done some time in the past. The man I got it from said they tried everything to remove it, without success. It had been getting into the filter and carb, cloging things up. They gave up on trying to remove whatever "it" is, and replaced the tank. I'd like to get it clean, and, I'm thinking someone may have run into...

YARGTT ( Yet Another Rusty Gas Tank Thread )
          by cpf240
I've been following the various threads here on how members have been dealing with rusty fuel tanks. While I'd love to pull the tank and ship it off to Brent, that will have to wait.
The Rust911 concentrate should arrive today. After a PM session over FB ( Facebook, not the ) with the Rust911 people, I'll be picking up 10 gallons of distilled water to use in the process.

          As...

          Fordor gas tank felt sealer
          by Supergnat
I am ready to install a replacement gas tank on my 28 Fordor Leatherback. The original 6" X 6" felt was salvagable after removing the hardened tar-like sealer arounf the hole for the tank filler spout. What sealer should I use on the felt before I install the tank?
          Thanks, Supergnat

Gas tank restoration - suggested welding service?
          by Pklarkin
          Hi all,

The restoration of my '29 continues, and I've turned to the gas tank. It appears to have a pretty serious leak at the top of the tank where the tank meets the fire wall segment. I'm not a welder... can anyone recommend a shop that i can ship the tank to, or to a DIY fix that doesn't require welding? Thanks for your suggestions.

After you get it clean .....
          by BillLee/Chandler, TX
I am getting ready to replace a leaking gas tank in my Tudor, I have a very good one coming from Berts, but ..... I'm not totally sure what I should do now.

I have read Brent's thread over on the old barn regarding getting a tank clean, by cutting apart and then re-welding. But what do you do AFTER you get it clean? What do you do to keep it from turning back into a rusty tank?

          Gas tank blues...
          by Beauford
So when I received a gas tank I purchased I really didn't give it a good once over since the deal was done and guy said it had no dents and was a really nice tank. Got it back from sand blaster....what a waste of money. Huge whammy in the top corner. Nasty welds on upper corners of dash. Looks like fuel valve was snapped or cut off so there is a mess there....nobody will work on a tank correct due...

Gas Tank Screen Restriction During Refueling
          by Fordfan29
After years of driving my 29 without the factory screen in the gas tank filler neck, I finally installed one. Now when I refuel, getting that last couple of gallons in the tank is tedious. There is no way to slowly fill the tank with most automatic shutoff nozzles. The factory screen does not let the fuel flow through it fast enough. Has anyone cut the bottom out of the screen & does this...
