  • Electric Wipers

I am in the process of putting electric wipers in my pickup. The only thing that I have had a problem with is in running the wires.

Any suggestions as to the best way to do that?

I’ll try that. The wiper that was on there when I bought it was the manual wiper, so there was no vac tube there.

FWIW: "Original" 6V Windshield Wiper Life Safety & Trying to Stay Out of Jail

Have absolutely no idea if my wiper was wired later or not, but on my August 1930 Town Sedan my vintage working 6V wiper was wired through the driver's side stanchion.

With a new wiper blade, this vintage 6V slow moving Model A wiper works about as well as a 98 year old guy slowly moving water with a termite eaten boat paddle on the side of his canoe.

I left this wiper on just in case of any type of Model A auto accident where a jury may not be able to possibly send me to jail for carelessly driving a Model A in the rain "without" a windshield wiper.

Carrying a bottle of "Rainex" under one's Model A seat, or in one's Model A trunk is a life saver over any "vintage" type wiper.

Even after traveling for a spell while it is not raining, (while collecting several bugs on a Model A windshield), a subsequent same day windshield cleaning with "Rainex" is also a life saver when it later begins to rain and the smashed bug mess gets diluted and forms a film on one's Model A windshield. I usually pull up under a gas station canopy to clean the bugs off when I see rain coming.

    Hope this helps.

Wow, those are great. You will be ready if it rains on our Kodiak island trip this summer. I will still be relying on rain-x.

          windshield wiper Vac Vs electric
          by aok
I have read a number of posts on windshield wipers and realize everyone has a opinion but
I am considering going to electric wipers, looking at the nu-rex .
Anyone have the nu-rex or basically any other electric and are unhappy enough to go back to Vacuum wipers.
          Thanks...

          Windshield Wipers
          by dmdeaton
The roadster has a thin piece of wire holding the wiper arm up. Vacuum motor, good looking housing, I assume original. I guess this might be something I piddle with soon. Do the wipers work ok when all is well, or just rainx the glass and go on? What is everyone doing?

Cover Screws for Trico Vacuum Wipers
          by eystein
I have noticed that there are two versions of the screws holding the top lid to the bowl on the Trico vacuum wipers. I have studied the top cover screws on some original TR-C1 wipers. The “top hat" portion of those screws is almost the same diameter as that of the widest portion of the screw. On the other hand, the other type of screw has a smaller head, making the widest portion of the screw...

          Original electric wiper repair
          by rheacox
Looking for someone that does repair work on original Model A electric wipers. Mine works well for the most part but there is some notchyness in the transmission. Most of the time it only swings the blade about halfway through its range of motion. Not entirely sure what model mine is, I think it's a Heinze HA-C2.

On the other hand, if someone has good instructions on getting the gearbox...

In the restoration process. I noticed that my vaccum wipers do not fully wipe. They move about 4" and stop. Could use some help.

          Wipers or Rain-X
          by Tom Wesenberg
When I first learned about Rain-X years ago, I applied some to just one half of my Omni windshield. A few hours later I was on my way home from a National Model A meet and ran into rain. It really is amazing how well that stuff works. No wipers were needed on the left side of the windshield. I don't know what the shelf life is for Rain-X, but when applied it's good for a month or so from what I've...

Ford Model A Vacuum Wiper Motor
          by telmore1964
I am thinking I would like to have my truck as original as possible and thinking about going back to vacuum wipers. I can't tell for sure if this truck ever had the vacuum motor installed because the holes that are already there don't seem to line up with Trico wiper motor mounting holes. Also on the outside of the window frame there is no hole large enough for the vacuum hose and on the inside of...

          Electric wiper mounting screws

I have a mid-30 Murray Town Sedan. I cannot find the specifications for the Hinze electric wiper motor mounting screws and the grounding screw to windshield. Where can I look to identify these screws?

Model A Electric Wiper on Ebay

Check out this wiper motor on ebay. Looks like it's for a Model A but more interesting is the farmer fix wiper arm....
These numbers do NOT refer to quantity in any way. Unsure if it works.
