Do you knock the pins out of the levers to get them off the rods? Then the rods can be removed? And the bushing? Getting ready to restore the column.

No don't try to remove the pin. Les Andrews recommends (red book page 1-302, and it works) to use a small socket with a hammer and strike the small lever on the end of the rod and shear the pin. It really is easy and works. The pin is soft metal

I agree with Mickey. I just use a modified battery terminal puller, and pull the lever off the end, shearing the annealed pin easily. Then use a 1/16" punch (I think) to pop the remains out of the rods and levers. Easy Peasy. I would not ever recommend drilling those if you wanted to reuse any of it.

I drilled into the pins when I recently replaced the upper bushing. Working with a fresh column I wanted to be as gentle as possible. I have done it the way Mickey mentioned also, but sometimes it doesn't go as easy as it sounds

The bottom repos work fine but you have to run some sand paper in them so they slide on the rods freely. The package instructions tell you this

I bought a pair of nickel plates rods from Bratton's about 20 years ago and they looked perfect.

Times 2. On the rods there are two different grades available. Go with the nickel as Tom mentioned. A little sanding where the bottom levers go on may be necessary

        2 Tooth Steering Column
        by Cape Codder
I have my steering column disassembled and want to install new Spark and Throttle rods w/Anti-Rattlers. I am assuming that the STEERING UPPER BUSHING must be removed so that I can install the rods, and then the Anti-Rattlers. Question is: How do I remove the STEERING UPPER BUSHING?

Separating Control Rods and Control Rod Arm
        by saxman657
Hi all, I've been dealing with a rattle in my '28 Tudor steering column so wanted to remove the spark and gas control rods to add anti-rattlers as I'm sure they have disintegrated. Pulled my horn rod and steering wheel. Followed Les Andrews instructions using a 3/16" socket with 6" extension to drive and sheer the control rod pins that hold the arms on. For the life of me, nothing is...

        Rear Service Brake Levers
        by plyfor
After checking service brake rods, I found that the camshafts are snug in the backing plate bushings but the levers rock slightly on the camshafts. The pins appear snug. Any thoughts short of replacing components, heat and re peen pins, etc.? Taking slack out of the rods helps perpendicular to the camshafts but not sure which, ( the levers or camshafts) are worn .

        Control rod questions
        by RInzana
I am in the process of installing new control rods into my column. How does one round over the pins that hold the levers onto the rods? Or should I just push the pins into place and let the spring pressure hold it from moving? Would they work their way out over time? Are the anti-rattlers really necessary? My top bushing is pressed in and not screwed in, So it it is damn near impossible the get the...

        Throttle issue
        by DomC
The blue throttle thingy was bent which caused the throttle rod to hit the choke rod. (See pictures). We bent the part (the bottom of the screen with the blue throttle thingy) that has the rod that goes to the carb so the rod won't touch the choke rod but we found another issue. There is a pin, that looks like a finishing nail, that keeps another part on the throttle thingy. This is not the right...

Hood hinges, how to remove pins?
        by dmdeaton
I have removed the hinge pins on my hood sides, the center pin is hollow, or at least on the ends. I don't care about keeping the original pins, as I will change them out for new. The center looks to be a little trickier than the sides. A good pair of vise grips and a hammer removed the sides. A punch started the pin outward. Looks like you almost need to turn a driver to fit in the hollow to get...

King pin locking bolt installation - HELP!
        by wayne1230cars
I had to do some work on the brake actuator arms which involved removing the king pin locking bolts. They were a little stubborn but I got them out. They were somewhat beat up so I bought new pins. I installed a new one on the right side lining it up with the king pin slot. It went in ok but not quite all the way flush to the axle. It sits out about .130 inches. The old one was not flush either but...
