Well after 4 different times, 4 different people I managed to get everything correct for the Richmond VA DMV salvage division. They required everything except blood, seaman, hair and my 1st born. The stack of paper work is unbelievable you have to do to title a 90 year old car. It is in the "agents" hands now and hope there are no other road blocks. Just send the trooper over and pay more fees and give me my title, registration and plates.

In my full rebuild document I had to write on exactly and how I did everything I did mentioned VFF as part of my expertise in making a exact copy of a '29 RPU. I had to provide receipts of every part. That was easy as it was all on one card so I printed off the statement. Lots of pages....they liked that.

I would and did forgo the antique plates in Delaware. I want to be able to drive my A where I want, when I want and as much as I want. Can't happen here with antique plates. BTW I bought my A in New Hampshire. No title. Delaware was very understanding and gave me a new title and registration no problem.Last edited by Mickey; 02-16-2018, 07:06 PM.

Minnesota gets worse and more costly every year. I already have the title for the Studebaker I bought last fall, but just transferring it to my name and putting collector plates on the car is going to cost most of $300. Actually it will be well over $400 to finish the title transfer, because now you need to show proof of insurance to transfer the title, even if you just park the car. I remember transferring title and getting plates for $7 in the 70's.

You never know when someone will run into your garage and hit the car so then it is involved in an accident. Gotta love how insurance companies help write laws so they can screw you.

I have to say it a little bit of fun rubbing it in about N.H.Cars are eligible for antique plates at 25 years old. They cost 50 cents a month,6 bucks a year. Then there is a little town tax on that, the amount depends on your town.usually runs about $7.With the town clerk fee you wind up spending about $16.per year.No titles up to the year 2000.No inspection stickers when the cars hit 60.Insurance not required here,so you don't need proof of it just to register your car.You can sell an old car with just a bill of sale on a piece of paper. If you give the buyer a copy of an old registration that is all they need.If you don't have an old registration you can have a verification of VIN done.Any police officer, inspection station,or car dealer can sign it.

Beau-I have done this twice in VA and it takes months, requires a lot of paper, but it does get done. The second time was last summer. The trooper showed up and asked if I could lift the car off the frame! I replied, "Well let's get under the car and see if we can see the number on the frame." Of course I knew we couldn't but I got him to waste some energy and time. Then he said, "I've got this metal registration tag, two rivets and your title and registration; where do you want the tag?" I said, "How about all of it in my hand." He said "OK," smiled and left. I keep the tag in the side pocket. It has the same number as the engine number which is the title number. I saw no need for him to drill the door jamb and put the tag there. He must have agreed.Last edited by BudP; 02-16-2018, 09:38 PM.

Carl I've got a sister that lives in Orange County and she has told me that many of the working class and higher educated people are bailing and moving to Texas/N. Carolina/Idaho and places far from California. Business are fleeing big time about as bad as Illinois. The taxes are brutal there, paying for all the foul ups the politicians have created. That and their lucrative bonus packages and bennies they voted in to pay themselves.

My 1930 Model A Coupe only took me (20) frustrating years to get a my title.
First many detailed written letters; next, signed notarized letters from the 90+ year old former owner; later an order from our local Justice of the Peace; and finally, a face to face meeting with a higher up lady with my District Judge's Court Order in my hand accompanied by my sincere threat to go to the Supreme Court ............ she went through my stack of papers and photographs, smiled, caved in. and gave me my title.
Before I left I just had to tell her what I thought about all of her dumb DMV subordinates ..... I told her:
"Ever see a Flag-Person at a highway crossing where one side of their hand held sign reads "Slow", the other side "Stop".
Well, seems like after (100) sign successful sign flippings, I have no doubt you always hire these guys to work at the front desks of all of your DMV Department."
We both just laughed.

BTW, I knew a guy that lived on a 90* bend in town, and a woman didn't make the turn.
She drove through his garage door and all the way through the back wall into his back yard.
Lucky he didn't have a car in the garage at the time.

Ed,that is probably true by now.I was watching that proposal for a while,at one time it was tabled, then inexpedient to legislate, then more information was needed, and I just kind of gave up following it.People registering an 87 Chevy as an antique and using it regularly has been a bit of a problem.

Bill, it said "no guns" at the door. I always carry and pretend like I can't read. You should see that mess in the city of Richmond, VA. The people who come in there look angry and then the customer service is so bad it is a recipe for violence. They thank me for being so polite and wished more people were like me. It's a game....I owned restaurants and when the health inspector came you made them know they were the boss and no matter has small the matter seemed to me I sure would hop to attention and make every effort to accomondate them. After a while we would develope a relationship and they wouldn't even walk in the kitchen. We would BS about life and other stuff.

Our DMV's are very bureaucratic folks. If you go in with everything you need its zip zam zoom its done. Always bring a little humor in with you they appreciate that. Sometimes its fun to stump the DMV as to what to do but bring EVERYTHING so they cant make up something just to get you out of there. Usually ours they get mad at the capitol DMV as everything in IL has to go to springfield and usually comes back screwed up - misspelled address, wrong house, wrong year, wrong make model of car, etc....(i have a paper license till i get my renewed plastic made one in 2 weeks - apparently cheaper to file more paperwork and pay for postage and print off a paper license than just pop the plastic one out on site...)

Here in the peoples republic one must follow the commissars orders to the letter or you face the gulag. There are no armed guards, only cameras, you are being watched constantly.Have all your documents in order and dont breathe a negative word about the state and you will pass...unless you are an illegal alien, where you will be granted over and above what you need, and will leave fully satisfied, legally able to drive to the welfare office.

About a month ago I posted about my 30 Town Sedan that was registered in Vermont up to 1991 but never had a title (VT does not issue for cars over 15 years old). I sold to a friends dad in Michigan. We could not find an actual copy of the registration (plates had the stickers on) and VT just dismissed me stating they no longer keep anything older than 2004.
I am happy to say that the...-

Wow is this a pain in the butt. I just sold my 1930 Town Sedan to the father of a good friend. He lives in Michigan. I have no title. My father bought it in Florida around 1986, took it to Vermont and registered it there from 1988 to 1991. Vermont does not issue any title to a vehicle older than 15 years from the date of registration, but does demand proof of ownership to register. Therefore...

by Afordman31My buddy has the original title for his Dad's second car. It was a 1917 Model T Ford. He asked me if there was a way to trace and see if the vehicle was still around. Any help with this would be appreciated! Believe he said it was a Michigan Title.

by BeaufordGo to my country DMV to register my newly painted 1929 plates. Lady who worked there said they are too long and she has never seen them that size before in her 33 years there. Well, that was enough to send panic in me. She didnt feel comfortable registering them and told me to go to a full service DMV for a second opinion. Well, the next one was a line out the door so ended up at the one 33 years...

by pAAtWent to the DMV in Minnesota, to apply for my title, and this is what I needed to complete their application. I also needed picture of every side of my truck and a picture or pencil tracing of the frame number, along with the original bill of sale. Got my plates and title will be...

by BeaufordToday was the big day for "Rusty" my Model A to get his birth certificate (title) After all the legislative hoops DMV has you jump through for a non titled vehicle which its fine, is what it is. After all the money you give them. Again, is what it is. After all the paper work, pictures, written build out procedure the nice fella from DMV Police comes to the house to verify the VIN on paper...
