For those of you wondering just what a #3 Coin-cut tool looks like, here are a couple of pictures. This is the proper tool for the distributor cam screw, If any of you have noticed, it is not a straight cut slot in the head of the screw, it is shallower at the bottom, that is called "coin cut", probably because a dime fits perfectly.

Additional tools kept inside the car...

2 Temp Guns (because I don't trust just one)

In Alaska we (Captain Jim) compiled a long list of our club members who live in all corners of the state. We all carry this list in our cars so we have a close contact person in case of a break down. I’ve driven 30,000 thousand miles over the last 4 or 5 years without a single break down, but having that list gives me comfort when I’m alone and many miles from home.

I can do a quick timing reset on the side of the road before you can pull the timing pin and turn it around to find the dimple!

                  Wiz what is your procedure?

                #14
I basically do what Nu-Rex says to do, put timing pin in dimple, place wrench on cam over stock body, just loosen screw, turn wrench to take up slack til it reaches the #4 stud, tighten screw. I don't go around 2 or 3 or 6 times to pull up the slack, I just have the screw tight enough to drag the slack.

This is not brain surgery, it is rocket science!

Nobody mentioned ROAD MAP, which I need because those with overdrives like to drive 55.
I like to go 45 with my all stock engine and rear end, so I get left behind.

You need a 12" piece of 2x6 to put under that bottle jack. watching the jack sink into the soft dirt instead of raising the car is the pits

On a tour in the early 1970' s, we had a cutout lockup when the car parked ( no cut off switch) and caused a huge smoke plume from under the hood. We added a cell phone charger under dash, but carrying paper maps makes sense if no reception-- thanks for that reminder !.
Also, paper towels, surgeons gloves, top of gas tank protector, paper disposable funnels.

Well, since you asked I will tell.

See, out here I am known for my tune-ups, and am often asked to "prove it". So, I am frequently hand cranking Wheezer to prove it, and after installing the tool box I was unable to use the original crank, which I also carry inside the car, I was moved to make a hand crank that could be used with the box. Now, trying to keep inline with the period, I figured it would be closer to correct to use a crank bearing, which has served two purposes. It is a conversation piece, and a support for the new hand crank!

The long crank was provided by one of the club members and he thought it was from some type of truck or stationary engine. I cut about 6" off it and relocated the T pin.
Drilled and tapped 2 holes on the bearing then using plywood built it up to a workable level for the crank. While fabricating the sling mount for the box I made sure it would hang low enough that I could use a crank. If you look at that first picture you can see the wood block.
