I had thought that there were essentially 2 kinds of bumper cross braces - the early tube type and the later stamping. However the one on my early 1931 Tudor is ½" thick by 2" bar stock, and looks like it has always been there. You can see from the photo that it has taken a hell of a hit. I think that I can straighten the bend, but getting the one end back to 90 degrees may be a challe...
