    Cowl band install

I put my original 31 cowlband installed just finger tight today. When I hold the cowl lamp arms against the cowl band there is a gap between tahe arm and the body. Do the lamp arms get tightened enough to close that gap. I had two cowl lamp arms break when shipped from the plater so I am not wanting to force these.

They are original cowl lamp arms I had replated.

If everything is correct it should be a perfect fit once you tighten them up. Tighten the cowl band first, but watch out for squashing the band with the lamp arms.. Since your using all original stuff it should be fine, but it is scary snugging them down.. Use two people and one with a good eye on the outside

Don't forget the wood block between the body and the interior bracket. I made my own for my 31 sport coupe and had to make them thicker than the repos so bolt would not bottom out. Some times the interior 'U' bracket is bent. Hope this is some help. Grant

When I installed a set of cowl lamps on a 1930 I had to find some washers (Shims) to hold the arms from the cowl band to keep from crushing . I have seen several cowl bands that were dented right where the cowl lamp arms fit . Norm
