Ok so I went for a short cruise as my vehicle is not DMV approved yet. The rebuilt speed does not work. It bench tested beautifully with a drill. I insert cable in speedo first and then the underside. I have rear on jackstands and it will go for a second and its like the cable jumps out. I'm assuming the speedo end. Any suggestions?

Yes, the cable may be too short and need the spacer that often comes with the new one. Also, before chasing yer tail, remove the gasket from the turtle on the drive shaft and reinstall and see if that helps. You wana look waaay far up da road and plan yer route because the brakes are far more of a suggestion than a command!

It's the turtle..unscrewed speedo, put her in gear and gassed him. Cable not spinning. All this is new. Just operator error..hahaha

Naw...no worries here! Took her up to 17mph in the garage. LOL Just have to put correct spring anti rattlers on tomorrow. Then the worst part. Fenders, hood, door alignment.(after my neighbor fixes my paint) Uggghhhh Got a bag of bolts with zero idea what goes where except rear fenders, running boards and hood shelves. I'll wing the rest...

Capture.JPG If the snap ring isn't in place on the drive shaft it will let the gear and thrust shift and make the teeth not touch. Just my thought!

by DaWizardSince this is the second speedo cable I have purchased from Moss, I was informed they get them from Snyder's, so I am sending out this warning. The internal cable for the 28/29 is too short if you use the stock outer cable!!
It will fit but when pushed all the way into the depth of the turtle, it is short in making it all the way into the speedo square and you need it all the way into...-

by FlatheadI have a round face Northeast speedo, it has male threads for the cable. Apparently all the other speedos have female threads and I can't find a source for a cable. The pick-up is a '30 and has the keyed cable end at the torque tube. I am building a Pick-up basket case and don't have every little piece for it. Yes I could put in a different speedo, but at one time the part I need must have existe...

by FixitphilHenry tells me in his "Model A Instruction Book" that I should lube the speedo cable every 5,000 miles. I don't know if mine has ever been lubed but I want to do all "Henry" says. What is the most effective way to perform this vital fete?
He also tells me that I should lube and re-calibrate the speedo itself every 10,000 miles?? Newby that needs some help!
Thanks, ...-

by AretinoI have my speedometer removed for repair. While driving the car with the speedo cable disconnected and the cable hanging on the lip of the instrument panel, there is lubricant at the end of the open cable sheath and seeping out. Any ideas why the lubricant is climbing up the cable?

by CSPIDYI am having a dickens of a time getting the speedometer end out of the transmission on my 57 bird. The clip came off with ease but adapter is stuck tight in the tranny. I’ve pre soaked with PB blaster but still won’t budge. I will try some heat. Just don’t want to destroy it.

by popsjohnOn my Town Sedan the speed indicator wheel in the speedometer will frequently whip back and forth. I suspect the cause is a dry speedometer cable. I was fortunate to receive a fairly complete collection of Model A News and Restorer magazines. I remember reading about using STP to lubricate the speedometer cable/housing. I found two technical tip articles that were printed in Model A News written by...

by conaway2I realize this is a futile endeavor, but I would like my ’31 to be a bit quieter on our drives. I’ve recently sent a lot of time with the floorboards - new seal kit around the edges, and making screws work on all the ‘D’ nuts in the subframe. Sealing the floorboards alone made a huge difference. However, there is still one rate from the instrument panel area that sill bothers me. I dont...

Lubed my speedo cable, put it back together. Raised the rear wheel and tested it to make sure it works.
Just went for a ride, now not working.
I was not particularly observant when I took the cable out of the sheath to lube it
one end is square, the other is round/fluted. Which end goes where?
Another possibility is I had the turtle off, any advice/tricks...-

by KB9JLOOK I give up. Where does the speedometer cable go? I don't have one so I can't see where it should be...
I assumed it went to the transmission but I don't think that's correct.
I'm just curious - Got the Mike's email today for the speedometer cable special - figured out it's not the one for me. And then got to wondering where the heck it went.-
