  • Cowl light wire bracket

Can someone post a picture of how the cowl light brackets attach on each side of the cowl on a 31? The center one in the middle at the upper corner of the terminal box is easy but I don't see how the other two attach. If they attach to the screw holding the cowl webbing that screw is into a cage nut so what holds the bracket? Thanks, Art

I have the brackets but don't see how they attach on the cowl sides. I will look in the JS again but only saw a drawing of them on the dome light diagram.

It's been a while since I put mine in, but I believe they do use the same bolts as the cowl webbing if I'm not mistaken.

Carl, That is correct but how? The cowl webbing screw screws into a cage nut. Does the bracket go on top of the cage nut with another nut on top of the bracket or somehow slip under the cage nut? Mitch I'll take you up on those pics. Thanks

I think that's what I did, put a longer screw in there and an additional nut on the inside. I'll look next time I'm out there.

So here is the deal on my car.
The L/S bracket looks original and is riveted to the body as shown. On the R/S the original bracket is not there so i am using the aftermarket bracket. This bracket is being held on by a nut from the cowl webbing screw.

Mitch, Thanks for those pictures. I will use a nut on the back of the cowl webbing screw. The JS says some were welded on.

              Cowl Light Wiring Info
              by fred93
              Original thread

I need to see some pictures or drawings of how the wires are routed for a 29 Tudor. It has cowl lights. I have attached some pictures that I took before disassembly but they do not seem correct.

              Cowl light wire pathway
              by vonheine
Does anyone have a picture of the correct run of the cowl light wires through the “cockpit? The wires come out of the special nuts that bolt the brackets to the side of the car, but how did Ford run the wires through the cabin? How did Ford run the wire from the passenger side cowl light over to the harness side?My wires are a rat’s nest, especially since the car has turn signals that I believe...

Cowl light conversion to turn signals
              by [email protected]
I'm installing turn signals in my 30 deluxe phaeton. I bought a cowl light conversion kit from Mac's. It seems that the socket and 2 filament bulb assembly, together with the new reflector with an elongated hole will not fit inside the body of the cowl light. Anybody else run into this problem?

Cowl welt ending at bottom of cowl
              by Rumbler
I've searched through the fine point photos but haven't found a closeup at the bottom of the '28-'29 cowl welt. Where does it stop and is it just cut straight off or tucked in somehow?

              Cowl Lights
              by JohnB15632
For you guys who are running cowl lights, do you only light them on one setting or do you run will the cowl lights lit all of the time?

I wired mine in accordance with the wiring diagram which identifies that the cowl light are switch on and off and do not light when the head lights are on.

              Thanks,

              Cowl bands
              by DBaldwin
Seeing as though I’ve been unable to acquire a cowl band ( unless I’m willing to give up the left one) I noticed that 32 cowl bands are available how much different are they to a 30-31? Can I modify one to be acceptable? Remembering that it’s going on a ccpu so it will get painted black anyways. Thoughts and or suggestions?...

              Cowl Light Work
              by popsjohn
This is a newbie question. How do I take the lens off the cowl lights on my 1930 Town Sedan? I want to clean and polish the reflector. Should I take the whole light, bracket off of the car to do this? There must be an easy way/trick to remove the lens but I don't want to use force the wrong way and break something. Do I remove the screw in the back?

              Cowl Light Crossover Wire
              by JohnB15632
I have installed the cowl lights on my 31 SW 4D TS. I purchased a cowl light cross over Wire. In the package with the wire was a drawing B-14426 (attached). This drawing references two harnesses,

              1. #11647 HL Harness and,
              2. #13412 Harness.

Question, does anyone have copies of the drawings?
Can anyone tell me how and where to obtain these drawings?...

              Cowl band install
              by Art Ebeling
I put my original 31 cowlband installed just finger tight today. When I hold the cowl lamp arms against the cowl band there is a gap between tahe arm and the body. Do the lamp arms get tightened enough to close that gap. I had two cowl lamp arms break when shipped from the plater so I am not wanting to force these....
