Seeing as though I’ve been unable to acquire a cowl band ( unless I’m willing to give up the left one) I noticed that 32 cowl bands are available how much different are they to a 30-31? Can I modify one to be acceptable? Remembering that it’s going on a ccpu so it will get painted black anyways. Thoughts and or suggestions?

If you can't find one close to you in Florida I believe that I have a reproduction one that will need some work to fit properly . As long as you are going to paint it I also have a original stainless with a few dents that could be reworked with body filler to make it smooth then repaint it . Message me if you are interested . In my second article here on the VFF on restoring stainless steel, I show a "crooked" small tool to tap out small dents in cowl bands.
(Go to "This and That," then to " Articles.")Last edited by Larry Jenkins; 08-13-2021, 10:17 PM.____________________

by Art EbelingI put my original 31 cowlband installed just finger tight today. When I hold the cowl lamp arms against the cowl band there is a gap between tahe arm and the body. Do the lamp arms get tightened enough to close that gap. I had two cowl lamp arms break when shipped from the plater so I am not wanting to force these....You do not have permission to view this gallery.

by RumblerI've searched through the fine point photos but haven't found a closeup at the bottom of the '28-'29 cowl welt. Where does it stop and is it just cut straight off or tucked in somehow?

Just recently someone was looking for a good cowl, and this looks like a good buy if it's what they need.
The cowl band alone is pretty expensive.

by Tree growerOn my cowl band two of the carriage bolts which connect to the cowl sides are missing. Since there is no trauma to the band I can only conclude that upon removal they were rusted and were twisted off. I would like to replace them, but there is no notch in the underside of the band to permit that. Any suggestions?

The very first 1930 Cowl Bands were attached to the cowl sides with carriage bolts. That being the case, did these first 1930 Cowl Bands, those which were assembled to the new 1930 bodies in November-December 1929, have the "angled studs" for which fit through slots on the cowl OR was this feature added later?
Thanks.

by RollingmedI have searched high and low, does anyone know if they will start reproductions of the cowl band? I am in the middle of a restoration and can’t find a decent cowl band. It seems they haven’t been made for some time.

Our 1930 roadster is not a deluxe but it does have cowl lights. The fellow we bought it from told me the cowl lights were on the car when he bought it, unrestored, in 1958. The switch for dealer-installed cowl lights that is described in Chapter 18 of the “Judging Standards and Restoration Guidelines” is not present but that might not surprising because the previous owner had the car painted...

I am in need of two photos of the cowl band. Both photos a the lower end for comparison.
1. The early 1930 cowl band;
2. The later 1930-1931 cowl band.
Please send them to [email protected]
Thanks.
