I purchased a new valve and strainer. The strainer does not fit tightly in the hole in the valve. If I remove the valve stem so as to not melt the o-ring, can I just use a propane torch to add a bit of solder?

You don't need to heat the valve or take it apart. Tin the pencil filter with solder, then shove it in while it is still melted. Very little is needed. Be gentle with the screen, they bend easily3~ Tudor's & 1~ Coupe

by BillEbobI’m disgusted with the shutoff valves that I’ve purchased. Just rebuilt a “backup” carburetor that was overflowing with gasoline overnight >> 2 problems obviously, the shutoff valve is not doing its job and either is the float valve, otherwise it wouldn’t have poured onto the floor.
Can any of you recommend a source for a shutoff valve that does what it’s supposed to...-

by A31WoodyIs it possible to fix a leaky under tank shutoff while it is still in the car? I tried to remove mine, but it feels like it will take the threads with it if I remove it. Carb is leaking from time to time even after running the car out of gas by shutting off the valve.
My other option is to put an after market valve in the fuel line inside the engine compartment. If I end up doing this,...-

by wrndlnI have posted a question or two about rebuilding 28/29 gas valves. Most people have said to use toothpaste as a lapping compound. I chucked the stem in my drill press and smeared toothpaste on the part that has is tapered. I got nowhere after several "grinding" operations! I don't think toothpaste is "gritty" enough to remove minor grooves. I have talked to a a person that...

by Grit KidI'll be switching out my gas shut off valve in the Spring and changing out the pencil filter as the same time. Seems re-pop pencil filters are loose fitting in the shut-off valves from Snyder's. Any suggestions where or what can be done to get a snug new pencil filter fit in a new shutoff valve?...

by DougInAustinHello all-
I purchased the shut off valve repair kit (part #13270) to address a fuel leak in my Model A. A quick note to those of you new to Model As trying to diagnose the source of a gas drip leak- if the fuel is still leaking from your Model A in the garage (you can smell the gas) a few days after you shut the valve and parked the car, it's most likely the valve under the gas tank...-

I know this has been covered in the past but was hoping someone has a better answer. I gave up on the original shut off valve after three tries and installed Bratons massive valve with copper lines. This valve leaks at the flared fittings, both at the original shut off valve and the inside flare of the filter bole. I dont dare tightened the nuts any more. Is there any thread sealer that will...

by SoapyI have been putting off the problem with the fuel valve that I have been thinking may have something to do with my coupe stopping abruptly. Since I put the valve in about 20 years ago, and since it had sat without running for a while, it occurred to me that there might be a bunch of sludge in the pencil filter. The problem was that there is about a quarter tank of good gas which must be at least...

Hi All,
Go figure another question from me
I noticed the smell of gas in the garage and noticed the carb was leaking. When looking at it, it looked as if fuel was all over it and not leaking in one particular place. The fuel shutoff is in the horizontal off position. I emptied the sediment bowl and checked in about 4 hours and the bowl was half full again.
