  • Do you have a front license plate?

Do you have a front license plate? If so, where is it?
I had mine mounted center above the bumper. I made a bracket this evening to move it to the right side so as not to obstruct the wind that feeds the radiator. I see a lot mounted center on the light bar. Im experimenting to see if this change engine temperature.

I have a 1930 NY plate in the stock location in front of the radiator.

No front plate, just a 1931 Washington plate in the back.

Front plate mounted on the light bar. Rear plate mounted below the LH tail light. Just like Henry specified. No problems with cooling.

In fact, as odd as it sounds, the wind pushes my front plate forward, so after a 30 mile drive it will be about 45 degrees forward.

I would think the wind hits the radiator and it all of it can not get through, so it pushes forward.

I have a time period dealer plate from a small Town where the truck came from, on the light bar. It was 85 degrees on Saturday on a very long drive. It ran at 150 degrees.

I bought this specially made aluminum plate that holds these plaques at the MARC store in Gettysburg. It fastens to the original license plate brackets, but before this i did not have anything on there. Sheila from MARC told me someone made a bunch of these up and donated them so they were in limited supply. I do have another one if anyone is interested as i bought two, i think it was about $13.00.
This is not to big and has holes in it for air to pass which will aide in cooling and prevent it from tilting

                Mark,
                Read my post above
See if Sheila has anymore and if not you can have my extra. There were two styles so i bought one of each and used the one that worked for me best. They are both made to hold the MARC hardware, but the one i used held the AACA stuff better.

I periodically drive through the mountains of western Maryland and wanted every cooling opportunity for my 31 Slant Town Sedan. I used a Model A rear license plate bracket attached to the right side front bumper mount to move my front license plate from the light bar. My car runs about 15 degrees cooler now when "mountain climbing."

One of our club members makes a nice bracket that hangs the plate below the front bumper on the center emblem. That is where mine is located.

Right where it's supposed to be. Never affected cooling. Tool box is a $13.00 Craftsman with a simple homemade bracket. The license plate is a correct 1929 truck plate. filedata/fetch?id=24845&d=1554128738&type=thumb

Colorado requires a front and rear license plate, although I've run my 95 Miata without one for 12 years. Since I expect the Model A to attract more attention, I plan to mount the front plate from the headlight bar.

If you flip the brackets, it "hides" them & makes a good look. Mounted this way, the WIND doesn't blow the plate against the RADUMATOR!

I hang mine the way I LIKE it! The Dog & I are our "OWN MEN"
On Minerva, used a tail light bracket I found in the car & put it between the R/F bumper medallion & the bumper bracket, a little "tweeking" & was perfect. Looked like my favorite '32 5 Window Hot Rod that I drove for YEARS.

Well Bill, if you take your magnifying glass away from the dog and look carefully at my avitar photo, you can see that I did that in 1975, before it was legal to use the 1929 plate.

Get one of the rear brackets, flip it over and it bolts to the front bumper bracket.

Mine is mounted on the light bar in the center and I have no problems with cooling. Virginia requires both front and rear plates but has an exception if the car was manufactured with no provision for a front plate. No front plate on my Auburn Speedster replica for that reason. If I develop a cooling problem that removing the plate resolves, then I'll run without the front one. Don't think any traffic officer would know whether a Model A was manufactured with a front plate bracket or not.

Some people have so much bling in the front of their radiators i wonder if they realize the possible issues that it can cause. Running hotter than it should can sure contribute to a boatload of problems and they may never put 2+2 together..

                        Mitch,
I relocated my rear plate primarily because with the addition of the rear bumper on a pickup, it covered up the stock location. So, I mounted all my "badges" in the spot vacated by my rear plate.

Texas requires front and rear. My front is laying on the coupe package tray. In two years no one has said a word about its location.

In Texas, if you have the boring state-issued antique plates, they give you 2 and want both mounted.
IF you have YOM plates, they only require one.
I know this makes no sense.
But I have a close friend in the DMV, and she will tell you that most of the DMV clerks do not know this.

I run 8 vintage cars here with only 1 YOM plate each for 10 years never a problem.

When you go to the flea markets (PATE, etc) looking for restored or unrestored plates, the vendors will disagree with this info vehemently. They can also make way more $$$$ selling pairs because pairs are harder to come by

I think my state (WA) requires front and back, but my YOM plate is only on the rear and that's all I have. Haven't had any issue yet. I think the police here seem to give collectors some latitude. They like the cars as much as anyone. When I was transferring my car to the painter's shop in another town about 12 miles away, I had no windshield, no windows, bumpers, fenders, headlights, or horn. I did hook up the driver's tail light. I passed by two police cars and not even a raised eyebrow. Just my limited experience so far, but I do live in a semi-rural area.

North Carolina allows year of car ie:1931 just as long as you have a up to date permitted NC plate (regular or anti Q) to show the officer,
should he ask. With insurance doc also.
Found and have a period correct "HOOVER" plate centered on front bumper.

When I broke down I had a young trooper try too run my 1962 NC plate through the system.:rolling

I ran the state issued front plate until the screws started to pull through the plate. Now I only stick my second YOM plate on at car shows.

I have tried finding this in the Judging Standards, but have not been able to find it.

What bolts, washers, nuts, etc. were originally used to attach the License Plate to the rear license plate bracket?

Do you use the same arrangement as the front? Seems to me that they would be different.

                                      Hi All,

For those of you who have a license plate on the front bumper (not over the radiator), would you mind posting a picture / description of how you did it?

I have an un-used rear license plate holder (Duolamp) that I was going to flip and use on the front bumper, but was curious as to how I should best modify / secure it for this purpose. If you have a different idea...

                                      Distributor Question
                                      by WayneT
I am experiencing a new problem that I have NEVER encountered with a Model A Distributor. I converted both of my A's distributors some time ago and removed the "pigtail" between the upper and lower plates and replaced it with the Brass springy plate that the acorn nut hits on the bottom of the upper plate that is on the bottom of the post for the points.
I have had the upper plates...

                                      1929 Colorado License Plate
                                      by BillLee/Chandler, TX
Does anybody have any idea what a 1929 Colorado license plate might be worth? I know that the '29 plate for Texas is quite rare and a good set is unmercifully expensive. My BIL included a Colorado plate under the back seat when he sold me the car in 2007.

                                      Bill

                                      License plate tabs
                                      by DaWizard
Ok, since the DMV out here is all but closed down, and not taking new appointments, I need to find the accessory tabs that hold the Month and Year stickers for my new YOM plates, that don't have the spaces for the stickers.

                                      HELP!!

Just received my 1931 restored license plate in the mail. Duane from Michplate did an excellent job.
He has an ad in the Model A News. Only took about 2 weeks !
                                      Thanks Tom
