For those who haven't been to the Gilmore car museum, you should put it on the list of things to do. It's located just a mile or two west of the small town of Hickory Corners, Michigan, or about a dozen miles northeast of Kalamazoo. It's out in the country, so there is no crowding, and no traffic noise. There are no large crowds, just a relaxed easy going visit with over 400 vehicles on display. Bring a picnic basket, or buy your lunch on the grounds at the original 1941 dining car café. There are lots of benches to rest, and picnic tables for eating. This year they have a special display of trucks, ranging from about 1900 to the 1959 El Camino. A few of the cars and trucks are nice originals, while the rest look to be restored to mint condition.
There are several buildings housing the cars, trucks, pedal cars, motorcycles, motorbikes, radiator mascots, and more. And of course, as you know by now, this is the home of the Model A museum also, with all it's wonderful displays. The building with the motorbikes has a neat bike with a very small 4 cylinder vertical engine, and that's one I'd sure like to own. The AACA building on the far west end has the mascot display, and each mascot has a number by it so you can look in the flier to see what it is. The very last listing was 1102, and called "Hillary on a Broomstick". This really cracked me up, so a few of us started looking for it, as they are not arranged numerically. Finally a lady found it about eye level near the center of the wall. It is an old mascot with a lady on a broom, and says "Hillary" on the base.
There is enough to see here to spend the whole day if you wish. Because my camera battery was low I didn't get near as many pictures as I wanted, but here's a few.
