  • Gilmore and the Model A Standrive Truck

My camera battery was getting low, so I didn't get as many pictures as I wanted at Gilmore yesterday, but will post some over the next couple days. Here's a few I took of the late Roger Kauffman's truck. This is the only Standrive AA I've ever seen. Notice how the frame is made to hang low where the driver stands. I understand the driver can walk beside the truck when it's idling in low gear.

Gilmore is a Great Way to Spend the Day
      by Tom Wesenberg
For those who haven't been to the Gilmore car museum, you should put it on the list of things to do. It's located just a mile or two west of the small town of Hickory Corners, Michigan, or about a dozen miles northeast of Kalamazoo. It's out in the country, so there is no crowding, and no traffic noise. There are no large crowds, just a relaxed easy going visit with over 400 vehicles on display. Bring...

Some Pictures from Gilmore Model A Day
      by Tom Wesenberg
First is the front of the Model A Museum building, built as an old dealership would have been. Franklin, Lincoln, and Cadillac have done the same.
Next is 3 Franklin engines on display just before entering the special exhibit room. The cutaway engine is a 1963 turbocharged Corvair Spyder engine. The last most will know is the Delorian....

Great painting class today at Gilmore
      by mhsprecher
I saw the Ken Ehrenhofer painting class at Gilmore first mentioned here, so I signed up. The class had about 20 people in it.

Ken started off with a discussion of paint guns and how they work. Very informative. I knew next to nothing about the subject matter, so it was all new to me. We then went in the booth and practiced on a variety of parts, including some from the 1904 Model...
