  • Why this new forum?

Didn't know this forum existed and found it quite by accident so I joined to see what it's all about. I've been a member on the barn for almost four years with some 325 posts so I'm not a newbee. My handle there is Lona.

Seems like a shame to have two forums on the same subject. While I've read many very generalized comments on why this new site was formed, it seems like everybody is reluctant to give their real and honest reasons why they left the barn or were asked to leave and what were the problems there. Looks like some guys were censored or banned but I've never read why that happened. It would be enlightening if Mitch and others would be frank and plainly list their reasons. Because of limited time, I would prefer to be active on only one site and would want to select the better of the two for me. Why is this forum better than the barn and what would motivate someone to change? Over the past year, I have noticed some of the knowledgeable old timers are no longer participating on the barn and wondered why. I'm not criticizing in any way.......just very confused.

    Welcome to the VFF!!!

I think most of your questions and concerns would be better handled between the two of us through PM or Email whichever you prefer. I know i can clear up any of your confusion as to why the VFF was formed

Personally i like to have a choice of Lowes or Home depot when shopping. Having just one home center choice promotes gouging.

Mitch, you should come to Anchorage. Home Depot and Lowes are right next door to each other. Some times I shop both stores on the same trip.

"Over the past year, I have noticed some of the knowledgeable old timers are no longer participating on the barn"

And, there must be a reason. But......

Perhaps the why is not as important as determining which forum has more to offer. Some would suggest to evaluate the content of this forum against the 4 yrs experience you have on the other and form your own conclusion.

Additionally it is not uncommon to have more than one forum for any given topic. For example, I belong to two entirely different HVAC (air conditioning) forums, and 2 Studebaker forums.

I had close to 4000 posts over there, and many others that are here now were well over 5-10 thousand or more.

To me the bottom line is to see where you fit best and determine which one offers the most help to the most people. Take a close look at the technical section, for starters, and if you are a fine point guy, check that out as well!

You'll be glad you looked around

      Glen,
If you have not seen this yet i copied it from another thread to here just as a preclude to our private discussion...
Let me know how you would like me to contact you!!!

"""""This forum was started to provide an ADDITIONAL place for the hobby to acquire information. We've had quality content from day ONE, thanks to our expert membership that we are so fortunate to have on board from the get go and their willingness to contribute and share proven knowledge & experiences. As that unsurpassed information grows more powerful and it IS, each and everyday the rest will take care of itself over time. The VFF has by FAR exceeded all my expectations since it's inception in April and has now IMO became a very huge asset for all. The camaraderie in this house has been great and this helps the new members coming in to feel right at home. We have picked up MAJOR steam recently i can see this on my site Analytics, but remember not everyone is a poster, some folks just like to lurk around and learn that way. If one wants to sign up and disappear that's their option (no sales pitches needed) but this site, its material and it's current active user base speaks VOLUMES for itself. There are many knowledgeable folks that cannot adapt to change which is understandable, but i have always and will continue to be here to assist in any way i can (just ask). Lately our internet search has improved GREATLY which sends us new lookers and i think they like what they see here.
Remember you folks are what make the VFF great not me,, i'm just a messenger from the Model A Gods to get back what we once had but better. Everyone deserves a fair shake and not a half cocked decision from the woodwork.
We're not even 6 months old yet and look what everyone here has accomplished..
      It's simply AMAZING
I'm proud to be associated with each and every one of you""""

As long as you all can put up with me I like it here. I always have lots of questions being a new Model A owner. Heck, yesterday I couldn't figure out how to open the radiator cap!
Being new here I have settled for some reason to posting this forum. I like to cruise the Barn and read some good info on there, but settled in here if that's ok.

Here you know you are getting solid advice. Mitch like himself has recruited the best in the "A" world when you have a problem and are here to help solve it. I am living proof of receiving such knowledge. Most of the people here were the ones that helped me on the barn. I have a frame up restore with very little mechanical knowledge but thanks to these guys help I have a pretty nice driving car.

                Exactly. This says it all.

I think all of us were getting tired of some of the nonsense on FB and the drama. No need to put that out front to be re-hashed again here. It's best we leave all that in the dust and pick up from here and enjoy the Model A ride.

What happens over on FB STAYS on FB. Vintage Ford Forum is a fresh start and here's hoping some of the very knowledgable guys that were no longer there because of X-Y-Z reasons will be back, here!

The other site was supposed to be for restoring Model A's, but soon got taken over by some hot rod guys. Marco and some of the good knowledgeable guys left, and when Vince was banned for correcting some guy posting wrong information, that pretty well told me it was all downhill from there. Also when the owner of the other site said something to the effect of people who restore Model A's for points are nuts, then I was also ready for a better site. I still post a little on the other site, but only if I think I can help someone that really needs help, or if I see some information that could do damage or hurt someone.

A spirited debate isn't drama and shouldn't get people banned. Heck, even some of my good friends are Democrats, and I haven't banned them. LOL

I had the pleasure of meeting Marco at the Gettysburg meet this year. He is well aware of the VFF but has had some very poor forum experiences in the past. I made it known that he is always welcome here and that this time it would be different. Who knows maybe one day we will all be lucky enough to have him back sharing his expertise with us and future A'ers.

Last night, while writing a comment in the **** **** site, I mentioned that Mitch had left the **** **** and established VFF. I also tried to convince Barn readers to visit Mitch's relatively new site. During this attempt, I described Mitch as "prolific" and controversial."

Before any one gets their panties in a bunch, my choice of words were strictly complementary. ...

You guys / gals that have been around the VFF for a while know that I like to share my thoughts with you. I do this because this VFF, is your forum as much as it is mine. I have received a lot of requests from these so called closet modifiers about starting a separate forum for them to share ideas. These closet folks are on other forums meshing in with the general population but are limited in what...

We have been averaging 3-6 new members daily. Many of these new VFF’ers were not on a forum like this before. One reason for this is many are coming in from the Bratton’s parts flyers initiative. I have been working with many of these new members on the phone and through email. Most of the help involved site navigation and operations. The feedback i received back from them is always positive....

I had the opportunity this past week to speak to a group of folks about the vff and what we are about here that many people here are very knowledgeable and willing to help especially new folks with their first car or restoration. I said folks here will help you not just say use the search section, well if you are new how do you know what to search for? I passed out key rings and cards to all the...

There are instructors and instructors ...... there are teachers and teachers ....... some less effective snob teachers want students to say nothing and just listen to Mr. or Mrs. "Know-it-all" ....... others who are more compassionately concerned , ask students for comments ....... usually the student who is brave enough to ask a question,...

An impressive thing about the VFF and the posters.....

From inception, I have noticed that the posters here are open minded about their methods, and have been willing to incorporate advice from professional mechanics and professional restorers into their repertoire. This is rewarding to the people that reply, in that they don't think that they are wasting their time. On so many other forums, posters are merely looking for confirmation that their shoddy...

                                    Hello all,

I wanted to introduce myself to the community. I am new to the forum and the Model A world and live in the Detroit area. I purchased my first Model A about three months ago which is a 1931 Deluxe Roadster. I was not even planning on getting one, but my wife and I ran across this one when we were at someplace and it was love at first site. Through looking at reference books...

Today I attended a model t ford clinic, where we discussed the kc warford transmissions and others as well as various brakes etc. We had about 150 folks here and to my surprise quite a few younger folks as well. They got to talking about tours and how to get other clubs involved when the opportunity presented itself I promoted the vff I told them about how this forum is set up many talked about...
