  • National Clubs how do they differ

I have only gone to one national tour so far and it was the MARC meet in Branson Missouri I have never been to a meet put on by MAFCA so I am going to go to the national in Kerrville TX in june. I see that they both do judging and seminars, it seems to me that MAFCA does more driving tours but not sure since I have no experience with them as of yet. Can someone tell me how do these two National clubs differ if at all. Are the national meets similar or different? I have only been in Model a's for about 3-4 years so my knowledge is very limited. I can tell you the MTFCA differs greatly from the model t international group. So please post your thoughts and observances and maybe more people will get interested. By the way I had a great time in Branson met a lot of people and saw a lot of cars.

    Chief,

The most rewarding way to gain knowledge of the Model A Ford is to belong to BOTH Clubs and attend National Events and their presented seminars.

There maybe differences but not enough to out weigh the benefits. Enjoy yourself.

I already belong to both my question was how do they differ like at national meets for instance in reading itineraries on tours they seem to follow the same activities i know they collaborate on the judging guidelines, I hope i did not come across as trying to insinuate one is better or worse just asking from folks who have participated in both nationals tours, maybe just a friendly informative discussion to help pass the winter days until we can get back outside and have fun with our cars.

MAFCA only every 2 years, different magazines, different seminars, MAFCA focus more on Touring MARC on restoration.

Thank you Mark that clears up how they both operate, did not realize it was every other year, noticed both do seminars and judging, and I assume judging is different from one to other as well. I also know many clubs are affiliated with both national clubs.

If they both follow the Blue book then actually judging "should" be the same as it was a joint effort to produce the JS/RG.

You will see more cars at a MAFCA meet than a MARC, from my experience. I've been to several of both. We will be in Kerrville as well. I tend to prefer MAFCA over MARC events for the amount of cars that are driven & the people who are excited to get out and drive their cars across the country. I know there are people like this in MARC too, but there's just more in MAFCA.

I belong to both clubs and the differences that I see are that MAFCA, being headquartered in Southern California, seems to focus more on driving with a high percentage of modified cars attending their meets. MARC seems to me to focus more on originality and authenticity. Both clubs have car judging, fine point and driving class. The last MAFCA national meet combined both classes into one judging arena which for me as a fine point judge, was difficult. If you like national meet swap meets, MARC wins that hand down. MAFCA does have swap meets but usually much smaller and for a shorter time. I think memberships in both are the way to go. Bottom line is that they are both here to support our hobby and their members and we need to support them.

Jordan thank you that is exactly what I was asking about how does a meet differ, of course Mark said every other year and spoke to judging, Gary also made an interesting point as well. I too will be in Kerrville as well. My wife and i enjoy the touring part, but I also appreciate and enjoy the fine point cars as well. I do belong to both clubs as well.

If you don't find an A at the MAFCA meet, you'll sure get some good leads.

What Mitch said is a good idea i might also add look up some of the model a clubs in your area many times the clubs have a website as well with cars listed for sale on them by club members which would probably be one of the best places to buy one in decent shape or people who actually know the car and person. Jordan mentioned that you will see more cars at a MAFCA meet , but I believe there were around 900 cars at the Dearborn meet last summer and around 450 at the Branson meet. Location also plays a big part as well.
