can anyone educate me on the best way to adjust doors on a pickup? I know the body mount rubber shims are part of the process. Right now both doors line up perfect with body lines on cowl but the back of the door by the latch is way out of whack

i am thinking that the hinge side of the doors are pretty stationary and locked in place if the pins etc are tight.. i would mess with the rubber shims at the front to see what that gives you. frame sag is also a consideration but you don't want to hear that..:. i have also read where a combo of shims at the body mount where the doors are off alignment can help compensate for that sag if it exists. it a pain staking trial and error process.. also watch you dont throw off your hood alignment in the process...
maybe others have better ideas..

Like Mitch said, I'd start with the frame having no sag, then shim the cowl as needed. Usually it seems the rear of the door needs to be raised a bit. Marco posted some good door alignment tips years ago on another site, and I wonder if he has them on his own site. I don't have a link to Marco's site, but if you do a Google search for "Marco Model A", I'd bet it shows up.
Here's the link:

We aligned Miles' Fordor doors before we shot the car, figuring we had it. Once the painted body was back on the frame, once again nothing fit and everything was off, and we had to align all over again. Rats! needs a ton of patienceLast edited by tbirdtbird; 05-25-2017, 05:19 PM.

by Terry, NJAs the title says, how do you shim a fordor (T.S.) so I can close it's doors? I've got lots of 1/8 " rubber shims. I also put strips (anti squeak) on the frame rails. The car also has new sills. I was playing with it last night. I'm getting P.O.ed about that car just sitting there waiting to run, but the doors have to close right! Any suggestions?

When I stopped by Mark's house the other day, he showed me an interesting problem on his sedan. The doors shut fine, but when he tried to turn the handle to open the front doors, it was hard to turn. I rolled the front door windows down and was able to squirt oil on the mechanism inside the door. This was all that was needed to fix the problem. But for the rear doors, even with the windows all the...

Aligning the 29-29 closed cab 82-A Pickup cab.
Here are my thoughts on the process.
The hood and radiator will be the last to get lined up so get the cab/doors aligned first.
If you straightened your frame with the engine out, check it again after the engine has been installed to make sure nothing has changed.
Assuming...-

by Art EbelingOn MY 31 Victoria with one round rubber body mount pad under the cowl mounts the remaining body mount locations have a space about twice that thickness. Do I put the rectangular rubber pads against the wood subfloor and then use round rubber shims under those on top of the splash shields and body mount brackets or do I use more of the rectangular rubber pads? The doors line up perfectly so I just...

by RumbleseaterI was perusing past posts on door alignment, but nothing about coupes popped out at me. I noticed the doors on our '29 Coupe are slightly(?) out of alignment. The doors seem to close alright and conform to the body lines vertically. The hood is way out of alignment too, but I noticed the radiator sits to low, and off to the left a bit. Is the door alignment worth messing with, as far as shimming or...You do not have permission to view this gallery.

by kennycathome30 Tudor, want to line up the doors and then remove before paint. Should the body be on the frame or can I level it the body flat off he frame? Front on left door at hinges is too low, body lines about 3/16ths to high. I realize you can't shim the body for that. Man! Want it right. Basket case car when I got it and a battle ever since. I love it!...

by copgibMy vehicle doors do not close like they should, I have to slam the doors shut. It is a 1930 Model A Coupe and I haven't touch the doors yet. I was wondering if it could just be the latches or do you think the doors need to be realined. Then the next question would be, do I have a body shop fix the problem or is it something me and my mechanic could tackle. Thanks Hugh
