I heard of a car where the nickel headlights were SO SHINY, the Judges "thought" they were CHROME!
The car owner scratched the nickel plated lights with a NICKEL, to prove they were NICKEL!!!

    Chrome vs. Nickel on Bumpers?
    by Pklarkin
    Hi all,

This might be a "rookie question", so my apologies. I'm restoring a 1929 Business Coupe and the bumpers are out being replated. They called this morning to ask if I wanted chrome or nickel. Which is best?

Thanks for any insight you can provide. As always, greatly appreciated.

Chrome gear shift lever and emergency brake handle
    by greenhornet
Were the lever and brake handle chrome plated on the '31 Deluxe Model A as vendors lead you to believe? The picture in my original not reprint manual shows what seems to look like chrome plated. I just wonder if reproes are good quality or would it be better to chrome what I have as original. I just don't even see a speck of old chrome on my originals just old black paint.I striped and still do not...

    Thanks.

    Is it nickel?
    by Terry, NJ
I was scratching around in my van and I found two old house keys. They look like nickel (dull silver with a yellowish cast) but are they some old alloy of nickel and something else? I want to use them as sacrificial anodes and try to plate off them. One says P.F. Corbin New Britain, Ct and they other has Yankey mfg Boston, Mass. is there some test I can with house hold stuff to tell? They have some...

    Anybody ever try this? (Plating)
    by Terry, NJ
Well, in looking over my A parts, both needed and surplus, I realize that they all need plating. Some youtube research has led me to believe that it's not beyond our skills and resources. First, you need a tank to do it in (5gal plastic bucket), second, you need a power supply, battery charger, battery, or a real power supply. A supply of nickel to plate from (Anodes?) I'm thinking of using a jar...

    Nickel Plating Pot Metal
    by dmaxweb
My understanding is that re-plating is difficult/expensive to have done correctly. Is the problem removing the existing nickel and repairing the pot metal pits before re-plating?

What about NOS pot metal parts that have never been plated?

    Nickel plating headlight buckets
    by Bill G
Does anyone have the ability to nickel plate headlight buckets? Mine are in great physical shape with no dents, but they were painted black when I got them and I added a layer of black to that. I assume they started out as pickup buckets, but who knows.... Just wanting to see if they can be plated. '29 Twolite.

What's Up with the Old Car Market?
    by Tom Wesenberg
Must be everyone else is broke also. Can you imagine buying this great car for only $34,000. A person could put that much into restoring a model A. 1931 through 1934 had some of the most beautiful car designs ever IMHO. Only 11,500 miles on a near mint original 1934 Pierce Arrow.

    Why Chrome Bumpers
    by copgib
I have noticed alot of Model A owners put chrome bumpers on their cars, it it because they prefer the shiney look? I would prefer Stainless Steel so it would last longer. Any ideas or input would be appreciated.

    Rad shell crank cover finish
    by Kevin in NJ
I was looking at my radiator shell crank cover and find it has a 'textured' finish. That is it does not have a smooth polished surface. I check a couple of others and they are the same. I believe they were likely not very polished, probably just stamped out and riveted in place.

Can anyone shed some light on them?

    Thanks.
