In reading the instructions it mentions adjusting the 3rd brush. The instructions also mention loosening and tightening the 3rd brush nut. I just rotated the 3rd brush without loosening anything and obviously did not retighten anything either. What am I missing here? I don't want to destroy a new $64 EVR or start a fire.( 6volt + ground)

The powerhouse has a screw that needs to be loosened and tightened when adjusting the third brush, but the Autolite (long) generator has spring clips that hold tension and don't get loosened or tightened. -

Does anyone know if Tom's EVR has over current protection? Had a new squeak last night, traced it to the generator. Sounded like brushes, took the band off this morning and indeed it was a squeaky ground brush. While I was in there I noticed the heatsink on the EVR was loose, no problem, just pop it out and tighten it up. My brother came over today and asked me to show him how to move the third brush to set the charging rate. I tried to move the brush and it wouldn't move. I looked at one of my spare generators and it moved like I thought it should. I then found a screw on the end plate that had to be loosened then the brush would move. I bought an EVR (Electronic Voltage Regulator) at MARC swap meet a few years ago. I got a pretty good deal on it. I think it is one made by the late Tom Wesenberg. I took pictures of the top and bottom of the EVR and posted them below. The judging standards talks about three different styles of Power House generators. The two earlier versions had 5 brushes and the one later version had only 3 brushes. I've been asked to look into having the black bakelite brush holder plates made. I've talked to one of my sources and he said that it would be no problem making it. About 2 months ago I got in contact with Tom Wessenberg about purchasing an EVR for my generator. After confirming the details on the gennerator with Tom, the EVR arrived in the mail very quickly (for USPS anyway).

While visiting a friend today he said his generator wasn’t charging and asked about adjusting the third brush on his generator. He had the band off and the brush could be easily moved to change the adjustment. I told him I would stop back tomorrow so we could make the adjustment. Over the years generators have been swapped on the Model A's, so now days you can normally have 1 of 4 different styles. First came the 5 brush powerhouse, then the 3 brush powerhouse, then the long generator known as the Autolite style.
