  • 1928 Starter on Ebay, but Beware

Here is a link to a 1928 starter on ebay, but only the main body is 1928, with the pyramid contact for the starter switch. The armature shaft and drive are the later 5/8" style, and will not work with the multiplate flywheel. The bolts holding the spring will hit the flywheel. Also notice the drive was sprayed with silver paint, and the Bendix spring has rust pits. Anytime a spring has rust pits it should be replaced, as the pits create a weak spot and make the spring liable to bend or break.

    Tom,

Check your Service Bulletins for the change date from the 1/2" Abel drive to the more common 5/8" AND the change to the second style multi-disc fly wheel to accommodate the 5/8" starter.

I have one like that also with a 5/8" shaft. Would be willing to sell. Not likely I will restore an early 28 any time soon. So it is just taking up space. It is not restored. Rod
At some point in time standardization was a creative idea.
