I was just closing up the shop and saw my krw tools. i noticed I have two realitively hard to find tools the a386e shock cover spanner, the a368 rear hub gauge and the kd spring perch press. So what do you think of an era krw/5z/?? model A specific tool page? I'd like to see photos of the tools. Rod has a good collection for sale, btw. I've looked at the krw page and liked it, but a lot are later tools.

This is a small sample of my k r w tools that I actually use, the Babbitt tools have been modified to work on std-.010-.020-.030 mains and rods.

1 checks rods for straightness, I made extra bars so it will fit .010 - .020 - and .030 rods

2 cuts oil groves and oil wells in main bearings

3 makes model A keys using the number stamped on the lock

4 special bolts that hold boring frame to bottom of block when boring main bearings

5 Babbitt peening tool, clamp holds thrust surfaces on rear main so they do not come loose during peening

6 gauge to properly locate rear main thrust surface

7 combination machine and Babbitt boring and cylinder boring tools on the wall

8 quick bolts, for fast easy removal of main caps when checking for proper fit on crankshaft

                      9 flywheel puller

10 rear main thrust cutter and three extra bushings that I made to fit .010 - .020 and .030 mains

This is my one and only KRW tool. I was lucky to find this at a swap meet and bought it from the same guy that I bought my first Model A engine from a few years previous. He remembered me and had this tool set aside just in case I came by. When dialing in the flywheel cover, be sure the crankshaft freeplay doesn't mess up your readings. The easiest way to ensure this is to have the front of the engine pointed down while dialing in the cover. Check at 9, 12, and 3 o'clock positions.

At some point in time standardization was a creative idea.

I have several KRW tools and a few 5Z tools. One 5Z I have seems to be pretty unique. 5Z-1901 Cylinder Head Wrench. Both sockets are 11/16". Can tighten head nuts close to the firewall. Predates use of torque wrenches in the dealerships. Picture also shows a 5Z-1845 which is the smaller wrench.

I like that 5z 1901. Note the shorter two handles, compared to the longer socket/handle. Keeps the torque similar.
