  • Building a 5 main block at home

this a 5 main block made by adding two mains. It is using a 327 chev crank. 5 main block and Ryan 005.JPG5 main block 005.JPG

The crank in a Model A is a flat crank. The chev crank is a 90 degree crank so that makes it uneven fire. Like a old john deere tractor, or a Harley motor cycle.

Seems your oil pump is on the rear end of the crank? Amazing work here!

George, how are the extra main mounts attached?

Are the welded into the sides of the block?

Would love to hear this idle.

I am imagining like a top fuel dragster backing up from its burnout.

maybe I will put my home built head back on it some day. But it is running so good right now a hate to mess with it. I had it running, but it just was not hitting right on number 3 cylinder. Come to find out after I put the head on my other engine it was missing on number 3 also, this was just before the hill climb. it turned out I had a sticking intake valve. It had got hot the year before because the electric fan was not turned on. it burned all the oil off the guides caused it to rust the intake guide causing it to stick.

These two pix are not from the 5 main block, are they? Really nice workmanship though...

No they are not the same blocks, the last one is just to show oil pipe routing for pressure oiling.
