  • 39 Ford standard headlight trim ring

New to the forum so thought I’d start it off with a simple question. I recently acquired a 39 Ford Standard that has had the headlights upgraded to halogen with the small turn signal light in the bucket. I think it was a Bob Drake conversion. The turn signal light is out and I’m trying to figure out how to remove the trim ring. There is only one screw at the bottom so I assume it probably slides down from the top and snaps at the bottom and then held in place with the screw. How do you pop it off? I don’t want to damage the paint - which is very nice. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

    Welcome Jimmy to the VFF!
I personally never pulled one, but since there is only one screw at the bottom i would think out a little and up. You can get painters tape to protect the painted area when you do this.

Success! Masked the area, removed the screw and took a small rubber mallet and tapped upwards a few times and it came loose with no issues. Decided to change both side parking lights since I had the technique! If its another 10 years, I may have forgotten how to do it! The bulb change did solve my turnsignal issues also.

      Thanks.

      Runningboard trim refreshing
      by wrndln
I bought some authentic runningboard trim made by Bob Burdick. It has some minor blemished from the pieces rubbing together. I tried a 3M gray (fine) Scotchbrite pad to try to remove the rub marks on the zinc trim. It removed some of the blemishes without scratching the zinc. However, it didn't do a real good job and took a long time to remove what it did, which was all the blemishes. I was thinking...

      50 - 32 CP 6VT Headlight Bulbs filament alignment
      by 01A
I had bought some 50 - 32 CP 6VT Headlight Bulbs from one of the vendors recently to replace them in my 29 Tudor. I wanted to change both headlight bulbs at the same time so they would have the same brightness.

When I installed the bulbs in the headlight socket two of them had filaments that were parallel to each other like they should be but not horizontal.

      Two of the four...

      roof mouldings
      by Hazelhoff
how best to install the two-peace steel roof mouldings that go across on a Tudor ? After spoiling two sets of ALU raingutters I found a used set of solid gutters which basically look OK/anyone familiar with them ? early repos ? When is pre-bent raingutter production to be expected ?...
